On July 2, 1827, American Commodore James Eads landed at Fort Myers with 4 ships varying in size: The brig United States (owned by Andrew Mellon), schooner Floridian (owned by Nicholas Longworth), brig Constitution (owned by Thomas Moultrie) and brig Enterprise (owned by Isabella Farnum). They began trading with local Indian tribes along the east coast of Florida before moving inland to Tallahassee in 1830. On July 9, 1840 Congress authorized General George Custer's ill-fated march across the Great Plains into Mexico during the Mexican–American War On October 14, 1840 Governor David Immler issued a proclamation ordering all men sixteen years or older must be registered within one week; no exceptions would be made for military service or hunting purposes On December 10th 1860 Elector Augustus Porter stripeced Miami Beach as incorporation date for county seat In 1865 when Seminole Wars ended there was much immigration from Ireland and Italy including Greeks who founded Palm Bay on Biscayne Bay In 1869 when voters chose Jacksonville as county seat they also chose Orlando which became capital city in 1907

Haines City is a small city in Leon County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. Haines City is part of the Kissimmee– Melbourne– Stone River Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was first settled in 1851 by John Haines and his family. In 1871, William Burchfield built the first school in Haines City. The town name derived from "Haenissee" (a place near Hannover), Germany where John Haines had been born in 1794. The original white building still stands as part of the municipal complex which includes a library, post office and public works department. In 1907, a railroad station was built on what is now State Road 441 north of town. That year also saw the opening of the first store in Haenissee and it became one of the largest stores in Florida until closing its doors in 1969. In 1916, Ulysses S Grant visited Haenissee while he was campaigning for president and stopped at Mrs. Haines' store to buy supplies for his campaign trail across Ohio and Kentucky that autumn. A new underwear factory called "The Gadsden Company" opened up shop on State Road 421 between 1914-1920; it produced uniforms for Florida's military during World War I and II as well as other products such as ties, handkerchiefs, aprons and hats for state officials. In 1933-1934, an experimental air farm operated by US Army Air Forces training personnel at nearby Daytona Beach produced high-altitude aircraft material used by pilots flying combat missions over Japan during World War II including those flown into bombed out Hiroshima Airport using #717 'Corsairs'. After years of decline due to competition from other businesses within town limits plusoted with automobiles becoming more popular than pedestrian traffic through downtown streets finally resulted when taxes were raised on cars starting 1941 which funded improvements like widening sidewalks throughout downtown areas making it easier to get around without having to cross busy Streetsboro Avenue or go down Main Street off Highway 441/State Road 441; this also helped reduce truck traffic thru Downtown streets making it less congested which then allowed business owners to open their own businesses along Main Street again instead of just advertising their services thru storefronts.; however there still remained some vehicular traffic thru downtown streets but not so much anymore because now people could get around without having to cross busy Streetsboro Avenue or go down Main Street off Highway 441
Haines City is located in Flagler County, Florida and was founded by Captain John Haines on December 12, 1819. The first post office in the town was established on January 10, 1824. In 1849, the name of the town was changed to Hainesville after Lieutenant Colonel James Haines who served as a military officer in Indian Wars fought in that area. On November 9, 1886, a fire destroyed most of the downtown business district within one hour and caused $5,000 worth of damage. Business slowly resumed following a period of rebuilding which lasted until around 1910 when another series of fires destroyed much of the downtown again. The current downtown district was built between 1912-14 using brick from earlier buildings which had been demolished by the fires.
