The United States Air Force has a long and proud history of deploying gift baskets to civilians in Alabaster, Alabama. The USAF's Operation Santa Claus began on December 6, 1946 when 1st Lt. Edward C. Smith of the 303d Bomb Squadron shipped a basket filled with mincemeat, candy and other Christmas gifts to individual residents in the small town. ThisOperation continued until 1949 when it was replaced by Operation Easter Bunny which gave out baskets of eggs and candy to civilians living near bases in Alabama and Mississippi during the Easter period. From 1951-1957 there was an operation called Christmas Conifer which distributed boxes of chocolates, nuts, Candies and Other Gourmet Items (COGs) to civilians stationed at Clark Air Force Base in Southeast Oklahoma City. These operations were conducted during the Christmas season as part of the USAF's effort to goodwill ambassador with local communities throughout America. In 1957 there was also an operation called Grinch that involved sending packages filled with winter gear, food items and other presents to citizens residing within a radius around Stewart Air Force Base in Georgia During these operations the USAF often reciprocated by shipping gift baskets full of various items such as toiletry items, children's toys or even appliances! It is interesting to note thatOperation Santa Claus has always been considered one of the most popular military exercises within USAFE - Each year it brings thousands of civilian volunteers together from all over America for festive fun! Indeed, this annual event is so popular that many military members find themselves barred from participating due to scheduling conflicts! It really is something special that our Armed Forces can provide for our citizens - Something that makes their holiday season more enjoyable than ever before!

The Alabaster Volunteer Fire Department has a rich history dating back to 1892. The department was established as part of the Alabama Volunteer Firefighter Association and served as a means for firefighters from rural areas to join the statewide organization. In 1926, the department became an all-volunteer fire station and began providing state-of-the-art equipment to other volunteer departments in the state. In 1951, the Alabaster Volunteer Fire Department moved into its current building, which is located on Manchester Avenue. The building was designed by Louis A. Kahn and financed with donations from individuals and businesses in the community. The department continues to provide top quality service to residents in Alabaster and surrounding areas today.
Alabaster is a town in Montgomery County, Alabama, United States. The population was 21,693 at the 2010 census. Alabaster is located on the eastern edge of Montgomery County and is bordered by Butler to the south, Tuscaloosa to the east, and Hoover to the north. It has a total area of 362 square miles (812 km²). The first mention of Alabaster comes from an ancient map made by Ptolemy in his Geography which shows that there was a village called "Alabis" in what is now central Alabama. The first white men to visit this area were members of Captain John Smith's expedition who passed through central Alabama in 1564-65. They named the site "Alabis," after one of their guides who had been born in Alabis (present day Muskegon Heights, Michigan). A post office was established at Alabi in 1872, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1903, when Montgomery County was created from part of Jefferson County, Alabi became its seat. In 1911, Drury Brothers Coal Company built a small coal mine near present-day intersection of US 24 and US 41/Alabaster Road; it continued operations until 1973. A small shopping center and industrial park complex was built around this mine during the early 1990s as result of coal company investments into new technology for mining coal including automated underground mapping systems with additional conveyor belts leading up to surface mines for loading onto trucks or trains for shipment out to local consumers or power plants. Businesses adjacent to these developments have included restaurants (including Denny's), large pharmacies (CVS and Walmart), an automotive service dealership (Chrysler Service Center), two churches -- First Baptist Church and Christ Episcopal Parish -- as well as several small businesses directly adjacent thereto such as home builders/repairsmen/maintenance crews etc., making it one sizable business district contiguous with other major department stores within walking distance such as Walgreens or Sears etc..
