The history of the United States Air Force Air Service began in 1917 with the creation of the Aero Club of America. The Aero Club was a group of pilots and engineers who were interested in aviation and wanted to do something to support it. They formed a club specifically for airplanes, called the Aero Squadron, which flew missions over American cities to show off their new technology. In 1935, General Curtis LeMay created the 1st Fighter Group as part of his plan for creating an air force that could protect America's interests around the world. The 1st Fighter Group was made up of P-38s and P-47s from various squadrons within the RAF's European Command. These fighters were used for convoy escort duties and were not meant to fight against enemy forces on open battlefields like other air forces did. After World War II ended, regulations changed so much that fighter planes no longer had any purpose other than reconnaissance or attack roles. Many planes were mothballed or sold off, but one plane that survived was an old Republic A-11A “Hotspur” clone known as NC 521. It had been taken over by NASA after Apollo 11 became successful and was used as a training aircraft until it crashed in 1964 while being flown by astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin during their first moon landing. It is now on display at Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. When President Truman announced his decision to create bombing raids on Japan after Hiroshima had been destroyed, he needed someone with experience leading an airplane into battle against another nation's airspace without friendly fire incidents happening (like we saw happen with our Korean War allies). He decided on General George Custer because he knew him well from World War I when Custer led cavalry charges through China into Tokyo Bay without getting hit once! This event helped make Custer one of America's most famous military leaders ever! After he got selected, President Truman gave him authority to lead USAF airstrikes against Japanese targets inside Japan proper – something no other general in history had ever done before! This is why you might see bombers flying over Japan today looking like they are from a movie set – because General George Custer actually led Allied Forces into battle!

The Birmingham Legion of Honor is a member organization of the United States Air Force. The Legion was founded on December 12, 1942 as the American Legion Auxiliary in Birmingham, Alabama. It became an independent organization on July 1, 1944. On November 15, 1946 the Birmingham Legion of Honor dedicated its new building at 7th and Clairmont Streets in downtown Birmingham. The building served as their headquarters until 1957 when they moved to 4th and Vine Streets in central Birmingham. In 1954 they changed their name to the Alabama Legion of Honor and were granted full membership by Congress on May 6, 1955 In 1961 they opened their new facility at 9th Street and Lawrence Avenue in northsideBirmingham In 1965 they opened their new facility at 16th Street Southeast and Clairmont Drive in downtownBirmingham On October 19, 1970 the Alabama Legislature designated September 14th as "Legion Day" in honor of both the organization's history and achievements during that year. That same year General James Doolittle presented them with a gold bust from President Harry S Truman to commemorate his visit to Birmingham that fall On October 5, 1978 members from all over the country gathered together for what is now called "The Great American Thanksgiving Celebration" which was held at The Legion's old facility at 16th Street Southeast and Clairmont Drive Since then there have been several major expansions including a new main building built on Constitution Boulevard nearNorthwest corner of Jefferson Boulevard/Old Airport Road (now I-565) which opened on February 5, 2010; a second main building built adjacent to that on 8th Street Northwest just east of Interstate 65 (opened March 2013) – this one housing offices and additional meeting spaces; as well as an annex located off Highway 26 northwest of town center across from Cullman School District’s gymnasium (opened February 2016). Additionally numerous smaller expansion projects have taken place throughout the years such as adding restroom facilities for members’ convenience inside newer large buildings or expanding meet/conference space inside older smaller buildings where necessary

The area now called Birmingham was first settled by Native Americans in the late 18th century. The first white person to live in what is today Birmingham was James Robertson, who arrived there in 1793. By 1800, English colonists had founded a town here named after Lord Baltimore, which became known as Annapolis Royal. In 1837, John Seale incorporated as Birmingham Township and began to build steamboats on the Susquehanna River for transportation between Philadelphia and Mobile Bayou. In 1841, he built the first brick building in downtown Birmingham, becoming one of its most notable builders over time. In 1847–48 during Andrew Jackson's presidency, construction commenced on the White House at Washington Street and Broadway Avenue; it was completed two years later under his successor Ulysses S Grant. In 1865–1866 during President Abraham Lincoln's administration – one year after General Robert Ewell surrendered Confederate forces at Selma – construction began on FortSumter (later renamed Fort Knox), near present-day Midtown Birmingham; this led to World War II when American forces constructed airfields adjacent to town for use by bomber pilots training out of nearby RAF Station Moseley Field
