The Decatur Infantry Regiment was organized on September 15, 1884. The regiment was mustered in to the Alabama National Guard on October 1, 1884. The regiment served with distinction during the Spanish-American War and World War I. On November 10, 1920, the Decatur Infantry Regiment was redesignated as the 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment (Decatur). On December 12, 1930, the battalion became part of Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) of Second Lieutenant James G. Hardin's Company A (5th Battalion), 127th Infantry Brigade Combat Team within First Lieutenant John C. King's 3rd Battalion (Alabamians), 129th Infantry Brigade Combat Team within Commander Major General J.B. Smith's Army of Georgia Theater of Operations near Athens-Clarke County Line between May 6 and 11 1931; then redesignated as a separate battalion under First Lieutenant Clarence Loyd Green on January 5 1935 at Athens-Clarke County Line between May 6 and 11 1935; then redesignated again as a separate battalion under First Lieutenant Forrest W. Sherman on February 25 1938 at Macon County Line between May 6 and 11 1935; finally redesignated as a separate battalion under First Lieutenant Norman Vickers on March 13 1941 at Macon County Line between May 6 and 11 1935 The 2nd Battalion 7th Infantry Regiment participated in World War II serving in Normandy beaches along with other units from Alabama Inactivated in 1945 after being reorganized and redesignated as headquarters company for Third Engineer Battalion 101st Airborne Division which had been activated in 1942 but never used because it disbanded before it could be deployed After World War II ended there were numerous changes to how Army formations operated including demobilization of all armies so individual battalions were no longer attached to armys command structure but instead served until they were drawn down or disbanded . As each unit demobilized some members transferred to other units while others continued active duty with their original battalion assignments . It wasn't until 1951 when all army Battalions were consolidated into one command structure known today as Army Forces Command which oversees allArmy troops worldwide

The Confederacy was founded in 1861 by Confederate General Robert E. Lee and the Alabama Legislature approved a bill to enroll 1,500 men in the Confederate Army. The first regiment, the 39th Alabama Infantry Regiment, arrived in Decatur on April 14, 1861. On December 12, 1861, the state of Alabama ratified a resolution declaring itself a part of the Confederacy. The first unit to be mustered into service was the 3rd Alabama Infantry Regiment on January 11, 1862. In 1865, after Mobile Bay fell and Southern forces retreated to Georgia, General Ulysses S. Grant ordered all infantry units in Alabama disbanded except for those still serving as part of Union armies. All members of these disbanded units were given certificates of discharge and $100 cash awards.
Decatur is a city in the U.S. state of Alabama and the county seat of Jefferson County. The population was 54,145 at the 2010 census, making it the largest city in Jefferson County. It is also home to Decatur State University and many shopping malls, including The Mall of America. The first settlement in what is now Decatur was made by Methodist missionaries on December 7, 1825, following an inland journey from Mobile Bay through Baldwin County and towards Muscle Shoals Lake. A town meeting held on January 17, 1827 designated a site for what would become Decatur. The community was renamed after General Andrew Johnson's victory over Robert E. Lee during the American Civil War (1861-1865). On July 6, 1851, a post office called "Draper" was established in response to reader outcry over the poor quality of mail service being provided by Montgomery and other towns east of Decatur along US Highway 10 (now I-565). By 1860, Draper had become one of several communities located around Muscle Shoals Lake that developed as cotton plantations during the antebellum period; these communities were known as "The Plantations." It wasn't until 1861 that Union General Braxton Bragg discovered found land adjacent to present-day Decatur for his new military installation at Alexandria Point; this led to increased development around Alexandria Point in support of Confederate forces duringthe American Civil War (1861-1865). In 1865, Fort Pillow was abandoned due to lack of troops and equipment; all remaining supplies were transferred south near Mobile before Union troops burned it down on November 15th,. This event marked the end of Confederate efforts within Alabama to maintain their secessionist movement within state borders (). In 1892 when voters approved annexation into Jefferson County by Jonesborough Township which happened concurrent with Birmingham's incorporation as a municipality (), Sterling Heights became one of its first municipalities (). After Birmingham's incorporation as a municipality () on December 1st,, 1916 Sterling Heights Mayor Wm Hays sponsored legislation authorizing municipal annexation by Athens which then became effective on February 1st., 1917 when both cities incorporated under their new name: Athens-Decatur , later changed back to Athens after becoming associated with Tuscaloosa . As part of Community Development Block Grants administered by HUD (), Athenians beganJulia Tuttle Park in 1978 adjacent to Interstate 20/Ulysses S Grant Boulevard interchange just north of downtown Athens ; this park continues today as well as having numerous playgrounds,, basketball courts,, tennis Courts etc.. In 1994 City Council approved plans for additional housing developments adjacent Fourth Street between Abe Lincoln Boulevard and Griffin Road - these developments continue today with multiple apartment buildings etc... In 2000 City Council passed resolutions authorizing constructionof two freeways east side streets between Third Street/Griffin Road junctionand FourthStreet - these projects are currently ongoing with ultimate goal being completionof I-565 interchange project 2020

Decatur, Alabama is a city in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 21,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. The city was founded on December 1, 1867 by Colonel Nathaniel Lyon and his wife Elizabeth Beecher Lyon as a military post named Fort Decatur. The area around Decatur was heavily hunted by the Creek Nation prior to white settlement, so they developed a strong resistance to non-Indians moving into their lands. By 1830, only 30 trees remained standing in what is now downtown Decatur. However, this did not stop Europeans from settling in the area and building mills and homes throughout the 1840s and 1850s. In 1874, General James Hance's cavalry encountered a band of Creeks near what is now downtown Decatur while raiding some Indian churches across Alabama for slaves along with other captives taken during Hance's expedition against Native Americans in north-central Texas. The battle resulted in heavy losses for both sides with Creek chief Muscogee Bill surrendering himself rather than fight on American soil after seeing his people killed or captured without trial. As part of Reconstruction policy following the Civil War ended in 1865 by Ulysses S. Grant as part of Reconstruction Plan No. 1 – which aimed to bring all races together under one roof – General Hance's command was given responsibility for Indian affairs within Marshall County including Fort Decatur and Lawrenceville (now known as Greenfield). With new federal legislation giving these commands more power under Secretary of War Edwin Stanton's general rule implementing Reconstruction policies – called "Emancipation Proclamation" -- Fort Decatur became an important military outpost providing protection for African Americans living within its boundaries until 1898 when it reverted back to Native American control pending further negotiations between whites and Indians over land title issues specific to black autonomy within slave societies existing outside of America proper until then... As early as 1851 there were plans underway by citizens of Decatur to establish a town on Clearwater creek because that stream would provide enough waterpower for mills running on flour ground from local cotton fields grown nearby.. Plans changed several times before finally gaining momentum due to concerns about transportation difficulties presented by mustering out large numbers of soldiers during the Mexican–American War (1846-48). On November 5th, 1855 a committee chaired by Mayor John Witherspoon submitted petitions requesting incorporation into Marshall county due largely to lack of available land elsewhere in Marshall County... In 1862 an act passed Congress entitled "An Act To Provide For The Management Of Affairs Within And Overburthened ByMarshall county" created The first Federal District consisting solely ofMarshall county including parts of Limestone county voted into existence February 14th 1863 thru iboard resolution offered jointly cased proposed annexation but no meeting held cased objection raised cased Board Resolution accepted Cason had been trying get appropiate action since late 1860’dowever
Decatur was founded in 1818 by General John C. Frémont as a small town on the Alabama River. It became an important cotton and lumber center during the antebellum period and saw heavy population growth in the late 19th century. The city's downtown core, around Seventh Street and Park Avenue, is home to several notable architecture landmarks, including the Decatur Masonic Lodge and Decatur County Courthouse. In 1967, Decatur became a city of color with passage of the Racial Justice Act.
