The Coast Guard gift history in Florence, Alabama dates back to 1942. The first Coast Guard station in Florence was established at the old Battle Ground Naval Air Station. This air base was used by the United States Navy and the Coast Guard from 1941-1942. In 1942, Lieutenant Commander James A. "Jimmy" Hargrave became the first coast guard officer to serve in Florence when he arrived from Mobile, Alabama. In 1947, a new Coast Guard station was built on land near downtown Florence. This station served as the Headquarters for the Coastal Army Reserve coastal defense force until it was withdrawn in 1969. The present day post office building located at 5th and Market Streets is also associated with this early period of coast guard service in Florence. Florence, Alabama is a town located in the U.S. state of Alabama. The population was 8,724 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat for Jefferson County and is part of the Birmingham metropolitan area. The development of Florence began in 1881 when rice farmers from Mobile founded a settlement on land that now forms the eastern edge of Florence's downtown core. The community grew gradually as Methodists and Baptists built churches and schools and started to send their children to school in nearbyMobile. In 1906, Florence organized itself as an independent municipality, becoming one of several such communities throughout Alabama during the Progressive Era period. The city experienced significant growth after World War II; by 1970 it had reached its present size with a population of over 20,000 people. Manufacturing has been strong since early days in Florence, with printing and publishing companies such as Prentice-Hall (PHT) and Dow Jones & Company (DOW) both based here until recently. As manufacturing sectors have dwindled around the country, Florence has seen an increase in its role as a transportation hub for central Alabama; it is home to two major interstate highways – I-65 and I-565 – and four intraurban railroads - Southern Railway (SR), Birmingham Southern Railroad (BSR), Union Station Limited (USL), and Baldwin Street Railway - all of which serve as connecting points for rural areas east of Interstate 59 miles west of town limits (. Rail lines connected to town via surrounding villages served by local carriers also served towns within easy commuting distance). In recent years there has been efforts underway by residents to revitalize downtown Florence through ordinances passed by City Council directed at increasing tourism opportunities while maintaining much core commercial activity including restaurants, hotels/motels, gift shops/merchandise stores etc., while preserving cultural attractions unique to this historic community such as Native American artifacts found near Five Points Shopping Center business district
The Coast Guard has been providing a range of services to the community since 1790. In 1814, the first coast guard station was established in Monterey, California. The Coast Guard continued to grow and expand its service until 1933 when it was merged with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Today, the Coast Guard provides coastal security and environmental protection services through various branches and agencies. One of the most significant aspects of Coast Guard history is their donation of gift products. The earliest gift from the Coast Guard was a set of charts which were given to American fishermen for use in navigation. In 1912, a shipment of rifles and shotguns was sent to Puerto Rico as a Christmas present for then-Gov. Luis Munoz Rivera. Another notable gift from the Coast Guard is their collection of USS Constitution memorabilia that includes uniforms, tools, documents, and artifacts dating back to 1775. These items are now housed at Fort Mifflin in Pennsylvania. also in 2012, gifts were sent to numerous local governments across America including Miami Beach Mayor Carlos Gimenez and San Diego County Sheriff John Mascara for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts’

The ball was given as an donation from the American Military Family Foundation in order to help support military members and their families. In July, the Coast Guard gifted a set of binoculars to Canadian Forces member Warrant Officer Gunnar Pettersen during his deployment in Afghanistan. Florence, Alabama is a small town located in the state of Alabama. The population was 6,569 at the 2010 census. The name Florence is derived from the Italian city of Florence which was once a major center for trade and culture. The first settlers in what is now Florence were farmers who arrived in the early 1800s. By 1910, most of the original residents had moved away and only a few hundred people still live there today. The town has undergone several changes over the years, but its core values have remained unchanged: community service, education, and economy based on agriculture and manufacturing. In addition to its namesake city, Florence also contains two other towns: Oregon Springs and Eufaula. Together they make up what is known as Florentine Township. The history of Florence begins with several groups of people who came to this area during the early 1800s looking for new land to explore and prospect for minerals or timber. One group led by Capt John Steele settled near present-day Oregon Springs in 1819 while another group established themselves at Eufaula in 1822 after finding land east of Mobile Bay on Pensacola River. These groups formed what would become known as the Steele brothers’ colony and began farming their new land northeast of Florence under license from Spain. In 1830, General Andrew Jackson traveled through central Alabama searching for new lands to conquer when he discovered an area that would become Florence on his way southward into Mississippi Territory. When he reached Moody County he ordered all available men to clear land so that construction could begin on a fortifications needed to protect against Indian attacks from that region future. This event helped change history as it marked one of America’s first successful conquests outside its borders – making possible not just military but also economic growth within centralAlabama since then many businesses have been founded here including Denny’s Restaurants (now Jamba Juice)
Florence, Alabama was founded on December 12, 1819 by General James Wilkinson. The town was named for the French city of Florence, Italy. The original settlers were Creek Indians and slaves from Mississippi. In 1830, a post office was established in the town, and in 1835, a courthouse and jail were built. By 1840, the population had reached 1,000 residents. In 1851, Florence became an incorporated municipality. On November 3, 1861, Confederate General Robert E Lee surrendered at Fort Sumter in South Carolina after a three-day battle that began on April 9th. After the Civil War ended in 1865, Florence's status changed to a general-township within Alabama until it achieved full independence as a separate state on December 11th of that year.
