Homewood is a city in Baldwin County, Alabama, United States. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mobile–Tensaw–Anchorage Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was founded in 1881 by William and Anna Homewood as a station on the Birmingham and Chattanooga Railroad. In 1906 it merged with nearby Decatur to form what was then called Homewood-Decatur. In 1927 it became an independent municipality separate from Decatur. In 1950, when Baldwin County was created, Homewood annexed part of Huntsville which made it one of only two cities in Alabama without any suburbs located within its borders. In 1973, following a referendum vote, HomewOOD became an official city-owned subsidiary of Mobile SEAT Corporation with its own mayor and City Councilmember system. Today there are over 60 businesses operating inside and outside of the city limits with more than 1 million square feet (100 hectares) worth of commercial space available for lease or occupancy inside and outside the city limits alone!

Homewood is a small town located in Limestone County, Alabama. The population was 2,895 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Mobile-Tensaw-Rochester, AL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Homewood arrived in 1818 from Tennessee and were Methodist missionaries who named their town after their home state: Ohio Valley. The church at the time was one of several established by early Christians in Alabama. The town started to grow rapidly during the 1830s when cotton became available for export from nearby Georgia and Mississippi. In 1835, General Andrew Jackson moved his army into central Alabama to quash a slave uprising and discovered that many slaves were living near Mobile. He ordered all freedmen within 25 miles of Mobile to leave or face punishment from Jackson's forces. When news reached Homewood that General Jackson had surrounded Mobile, residents decided to fight instead of flee or be sold into slavery. They fought until around 10 am on July 4th when they surrendered without any loss on their part. In 1840, the local planter James Boggs built a house called "Boggy Bottom" on what is now State Road 508 east of town (now Boggy Bottom Drive). This house served as a center for social activities for many years and was also used as the temporary home of the county seat during various times between 1860 and 1870. Boggy Bottom still stands today and can be seen through its windows from State Road 508 east in Homewood proper; it has been lost since 1970 but can occasionally be seen being driven around by kids on Addison Street NE in nearby Vestavia Hills). A post office began operating at Homewood in 1836, serving residents until 1875 when it merged with neighboring Phenix City Post Office to formMobile Post Office which continued operation until 1959. A courthouse was completed in 1840 but never opened because no money could be raised to finance it properly; it sat empty until 1862 when Judge John Wofford donated land southeast of town along Upson Avenue for its construction . In 1865 Union Gen’l Robert Ewell issued orders transporting all black citizens living within 100 miles of Confederate troops such as those found at Mobile Bayou outside limits northward into Union territory where they would become slaves! Most African Americans lived within 15 miles ofMobile so this order had little impact on them personally but caused great concern among their loved ones back home who knew they were helplessly trapped! After fulfilling his pledge Judge Wofford donated his land again which became known as “Ewell Ford” after him .After Reconstruction EwellFord reverted back to its original name after he died.. In 1930s an addition was made across lanes road just west out side Oftown limits behind Homeown High School renamed “Neely Ford II” following then Mayor Ralph Neely Sr., who purchased it while liveing there during prohibition days.. Today young people go by Noeys Ford Rd & Old US Hwy 82 Name changes are irrelevant
Homewood was founded in 1871 as a small farming community. In the 1920s, Homewood became a center for white flight from the city due to its proximity to Hoover Dam and other development projects. The population of Homewood shrank severely after World War II, but has slowly regained some of its former size since then.
