The United States Air Force (USAF) gift history can be traced back to World War II. TheAAF was founded in 1947 and, during the war, the RAF was responsible for flying combat air patrols over Europe. In 1941, the USAF was established as a separate branch of the military with the purpose of providing aerial cover for Allied ground forces. By 1945, the USAF had become one of the world’s most powerful militaries with more than 2,000 aircraft and staff members operating throughout NATO. In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed Executive Order 12597 which formally created the USAF Academy at Maxwell AFB in Alabama. That same year saw The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) establish its headquarters at Langley AFB in Virginia and it was through this agency that USAF acquisition programs were formalized. From Langley AFB, USAAF program managers developed plans for development of jet aircraft such as Northrop Grumman’s P-3C Neptune and Boeing’s B-47 Stratojet bomber. These programs led to America becoming an aerospace superpower by 1960. During post-war reconstruction efforts following World War II there arose a need for new airports across America – some were built while others were planned but never realized due to budgetary challenges or other factors such as political instability caused by war reparations payments from Germany/ Austria/ Hungary etcetera. Two important American airports that opened during this time are Dayton OH (1948) and Wichita KS (1960). Both airport projects received large grants from both Congress and private foundations which helped jumpstart American aviation industry during these years; both airports have since been greatly expanded thanks to subsequent funds allocations provided by various governments including our own national government today!
