The USS Constitution was the first ship of the United States Navy. She was launched on December 16, 1794 and commissioned on February 3, 1795 under Captain John Rodgers. After being recommissioned on November 12, 1957 with LtCol Everett Cushing in command it stayed in service through most of the Vietnam War before being decommissioned on October 15, 1973 at Naval Station Norfolk.
