Mountain Brook is a small town in Alabama, located in the extreme northeast corner of the state. It is bordered by Butler County to the west, Tuscaloosa County to the north, and Mobile County to the east. Mountain Brook covers 9 square miles (23 km²) and has a population of 1,362 as of 2010. The name "Mountain Brook" may be derived from its location on a stream that flows through it. The original grant for this land was made in 1785 to Major General James Robertson. Today's community was founded in 1881 when two families bought 640 acres (250 ha) of woodland around what is now downtown Mountainbrook from J.F. Chambers BBQ Company. The first store in MountainBrook opened its doors on Main Street on October 24, 1881. A post office called Mount Brook was established in 1889, and remained operational until 1955. In 1930, the Tennessee Valley Authority built an electric power plant just south of town due to high demand for electricity during the Great Depression; however, no new stores or businesses were developed at that time because there wasn't enough money available to do so without raising taxes. In 1984-1985, MountainBrook received national attention when local residents waged a aggressive battle against developers who wanted to build a shopping mall near their town center- ultimately resulting in only one building being constructed on site instead which served as offices for some nearby businesses before being demolished several years later–a victory that helped solidify mountainbrook's status as an agricultural enclave within urban areas across much of America during those years[1]. Since then, many new businesses have come into existence such as Bluegrass Tavern & Grill whichopened up next door to Joe’s Pizza just off US 69/Alabama 251 back in 2013 and Restaurant Augusto’s whichopened up down the street from Joe’s about 5 years ago[2]. There are also plans underway for another business park adjacent to downtown which will provide more than 2000 sq ft (900 m²) of retail space[3]. All this growth has led not onlyto increased tourism but also increased job opportunities for employees within both local businesses and neighboring municipalities like Butler and Tuscaloosa Counties who all benefit from having access to Interstate 10 Exit 253(Lauderdale Rd). Mountain Brook is a small town in Alabama, United States. The population was 1,523 at the 2010 census. Mountain Brook is located in Jefferson County. It is part of the Huntsville–Alabelle metropolitan area. Mountain Brook began as a Indian village on a high ground near the present day intersection of U.S Route 21 and State Route 316 (now SR 316) in what is now Liberty Township,Jefferson County. The first white settler to arrive in Mountain Brook was George Auld, who built his cabin in 1798 on land that he had purchased from the Chickasaw Nation for $10 per acre. The community name may be derived from an iron ore vein discovered near Mount Brook about 1820 which led to its development as a mining district known as "MountainBrook". In 1882, mountain brook Academy was founded by J B Henson with assistance from W M Norris and donated by Mrs Henson to provide education for local children interested in learning how to read and write while living close to home. In 1907, Mountainbrook became one of three communities within the new Monrovia Town School District formed by consolidation of several other towns within Jefferson County including Adams Springs and Oak Grove (later renamed Highland). That same year, Mountainbrook's only store opened with purchases made at two other stores located within walking distance of the schoolhouse- one operated by Mrs Ladd and one run by John Fenton Jr.. In 1915, during World War I when much of Alabama was placed under military occupation due to Gov't rationing programs, MountainBrook joined forces with nearby Huntsville to form what would become known as "The Big Three" Alliance which included all five cities located within Jefferson County plus Decatur and Phenix City limits inside Limestone County- making it one of only six counties in Alabama without any commercial or industrial areas outside its borders!
Mountain Brook is a tributary of the Black Warrior River in Alabama. The creek was named for a mountain range that runs through the area.
