Pell City is a small, Midwestern town located in Jefferson County, Alabama. The population was 12,854 at the 2010 census. Pell City is one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in Alabama and has been on the site of present-day Pell City since 1819. The community was platted in 1819 by John Pell and Jesse Hill as part of a land grant to him from the state of Georgia. The first store in Pell City opened its doors on Main Street in 1825. A post office has been located here since 1838. By 1860, Pell City had a population of 1,200 residents and was known for its cotton plantations and agricultural produce. In 1865, Union troops burned down most of the town to prevent it from remaining Confederate territory during the Civil War. However, much of Pell City still remains standing today due to its strategic location withinJefferson County and its rich history. Today, Pell City is an anchor point for many businesses throughout Jefferson County including hospitals and government agencies; as well as a major tourist destination with several attractions such as casino gambling operations, historical sites such as Fort Smith Battlefield National Monument (the original home of the Confederate army), baseball stadiums (including one that now serves as home to the Birmingham Barons)and two shopping malls – One open only to locals and called "The Mall" while another more popular tourist spot offers local merchants access to national chain stores inside larger shopping malls across both cities which are generally easier for shoppers not living within close proximity to either city center). Additionally, there are also several educational institutions located here including Auburn University's Bryant–Denny School Of Business & Economics and Lamar University's College Of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences which together have over 2200 students enrolled across six campuses across two states!

Pell City is located in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, on the Suh River. The community was established in 1881 by members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. It became a city in 1907 and was named for J.M. Pell, an entrepreneur and landowner who donated land to the city. The population of Pell City was 1,567 at the 2010 census.
The first settlers to Pell City were Methodists from Tennessee who came overland as part of the Trail of Tears in 1839. Other pioneers to Pell City include James Auld and his brother David Auld, both of whom built stores and homes around 1881. John Geddes started a grocery store in PellCity in 1886 and later became president of Tuscaloosa County Probate Court.
During World War II, many Germans moved into PellCity due to patriotic sentiment towards America during that time period. Some residents also formed their own businesses such as Gold's Gymnasium which still operates today (opposite current day downtown). After the war ended, many people left town for various reasons including retirement or relocation to newer municipalities within Tuscaloosa County or other parts of Alabama due to economic fluctuations during that time period.
After being vacant for years, downtown PellCity finally reopened after a $3 million renovation project completed in 2011-12 spearheaded by Mayor Artis Hicks and funded by donations from local businesses and individuals including Donnie Goode Jr., Bobby Heenan Sr., Jeffery Ladd III (a former owner/operator of KFC), Rick Wright (a former owner/operator of Chisholm’s gas station), Lamar Hunt (the founder/CEO/chairman emeritusof MGM Resorts International)and others. Today, Downtown PellCity has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in Tuscaloosa County with its mix of old brick buildings dating back to the 1800s mixed with modern architecture designed by architects such as Archstone + Partners Architects along with several restaurants & bars - making it one stop not only for visitors but also locals looking for someplace they can call home while away from home or workaday life.
