Pleasant Grove is a town in Butler County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,651 at the 2000 census. The town is located on the eastern edge of Butler County and is northeast of Birmingham. It is part of the Huntsville–Decatur metropolitan area. The first settlement in what is now Pleasant Grove was made by farmers who arrived from Georgia in 1827. By 1829, a small community had been organized and named for General James Harnett, who served as governor of Georgia during the antebellum period. In 1830, a post office called "Harnett" was established in what is now Pleasant Grove; it continued to be used until 1875. In 1840, William Pritchard built a log cabin on what are now east central streets in Pleasant Grove and named it "Pleasant Grove". In 1845, he married Anna Mclntyre and they moved to their current location. In 1850-1851, Jno Worthy built a frame house on present day east central street which he called "Worthy's Grange". He also erected two other buildings: one known as the First Methodist Church (now known as Baptist Zion) and another known as the First Baptist Church (now known as Hope Baptist). From this point forward, Pleasant Grove would be commonly referred to simply as "Pleasant Grove." In 1865-1866 an act were passed by the Alabama Legislature providing for local self-government within Butler County; this act created township form of government for areas within Butler County not yet covered by counties or townships. As result of this change - which took effect on November 1st - Pleasant Grove became its own municipality with its own clerk/treasurer/council etc., separate from any other municipality within Butler County. On May 6th 1870 – just over 2 years after formation – John Aiken donated land comprising most of what are today west central streets between Mobile Avenue and Elm Street to develop into what would become Pleasant Grove Township Sheriff's Department Station #1 & #2 & #3 along with 3 or 4 homesites on that property currently occupied by Town Hall building & Police Annex Building (& several others sites since)) However those early days were much more difficult than they appear today with all that has followed! With so many new faces coming into town including law enforcement officials (Sheriff's Dept.) new schools began being built Elementary School (1930), High School (1935), Hospital (1935), Business Park(?), pictured here looking south towards intersection of East Central Boulevard opposite courthouse 1935)additional shopping center opened up soon after 1959 when old brick courthouse burned down

Pleasant Grove is a small town in Montgomery County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in Pleasant Grove was John Proctor who arrived in 1819. He and his family founded the village of Pleasant Grove on a tract of land that he had bought from the Cherokee Indians. In 1830, Nathan Bedford Forrest purchased 5 square miles (13 km²) of this area for $1,000 from Proctor. Forrest named the new settlement "Pleasant Grove" after himself and his wife's original home in England. The Forrests were among the earliest settlers in what is now Montgomery County and they are buried there. The town grew rapidly during Reconstruction Era times because of its proximity to Birmingham and other major cities. Many businesses were established here such as a sawmill, grocery store, ironworks, and even a post office which opened on January 10th 1865 under then Ulysses S Grant as part of Reconstruction efforts following the Civil War. During World War II it became an important strategic location for air defense due to its location near Hoover Dam across the border into Mexico and also because it sat on high ground overlooking Mobile Bay making it difficult for enemy forces to attack inland or cross over into Alabama without alerting local citizens and leading to many airstrikes against Japanese targets in those days
