They roasted their own beans and sold them from their home. In 1853, John Capps opened a roastery in Prichard and began to roast coffee for local merchants. By 1860, Mr. Capps had built a large warehouse where he stored his beans and produced sixty-four pounds of coffee per day. He also made espresso drinks called "Cappuccino" and "Latte." In 1903, Jerald Neely bought the business of Mr. Capps and continued to operate it until his death in 1951. His son, Al Neely, took over the business after his father's death and ran it until 1990 when it was acquired by Starbucks Corporation. At Starbucks, they continue to roast their own beans with the goal of providing high-quality products at an affordable price point for consumers around the world. They also sell kiosks throughout different stores that offer fresh roasted coffee direct to customers' tables during busy periods like lunchtime or dinner time.

Prichard was founded in 1819 by Captain Elijah Prichard and his wife, Sarah. The town originally consisted of a few log homes and a small store. In the early 1800s, the first white settlers arrived in Prichard and began to build homes. By 1829, the population of Prichard had increased to around seventy-five people. The first school was built in 1828 and the first post office was established in 1830. In 1865, Confederate troops burned down part of the town while retreating from Union forces. Many of Prichard's residents were forced to flee their homes or take refuge with family members outside of town. Aftermath of the battle caused much damage to property in Prichard and many families lost their home or business within minutes of it happening. In 1871, President Ulysses S Grant ordered for all military stores inside Confederate lines be destroyed as punishment for Confederate General Robert E Lee's surrender at Appomattox Court House. This event is often referred to as "the greatest act of treason on American soil." Aftermath of the war led to an increase in black Americans moving into rural areas throughout Alabama during Reconstruction which helped improve economic conditions for many black Americans living within reach. After Reconstruction ended in America, many African Americans left Birmingham for new opportunities across the South after being denied civil rights by Congress under Woodrow Wilson's administration. However, many local businesses remained open during this time period because no one wanted them closed down due to race discrimination accusations against them. In 1924, Prichard became an independent city following a vote by its citizens following years of negotiations between its government and neighboring cities over issues such as zoning regulations and services available within their boundaries (such as water supplies). The city annexed neighboring municipalities including Mound City on November 1st 1927 so that they could have better sewer service but also gained airspace above Mound City so that they could erectPolice Airplanes at nearby Mount Weather Airport which opened up development possibilities for downtown area which still exists today
