The Sylacauga Air Force Base is a major United States airbase located in Sylacauga, Alabama. The base opened on October 1, 1941 and became operational as the Tuskegee Airmen Flying Training School on December 15 of that year. Sylacauga is a city in and the county seat of Montgomery County, Alabama, United States. The population was 100,715 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Montgomery County by population. Sylacauga is also home to two campuses of the University of Alabama in Huntsville and one campus of Tuskegee University. The first mention of Sylvania (or "Sylvania") comes from an account written by John Fenton about General Andrew Jackson's campaign against General Richard Taylor during the Mexican–American War. According to this account, on July 8, 1804, General Jackson's army was encamped near what is now known as Sylvania after reaching there from Chattanooga that day on a march across Tennessee Mountain Pass. While camped at Sylvania River forthe night, they heard "a loud voice" which they took to be that of Chief Tecumseh urging them not to fight against Taylor but rather unite with him and support his cause. General Jackson ordered Major James Hogg to take possession of some cannons he had brought over from Mobile Bayou and bring them back into camp so that they could shoot arrows into the air in celebration if successful in defeating Taylor; however, Hogg only succeeded in wounding one man before being discovered by Captain John Sevier who rallied his men and drove off Hogg with ease. A few days later another detachment led by Lieutenant Colonel George Prentice crossed over from Mobile Bayou along upper Chattahoochee River towards where Fort Moultrie stood on higher ground northwest of present-day Sylacauga; however upon reaching its junction with lower Chattahoochee River they found themselves blockaded by Confederate forces under Brigadier General Elijah Bledsoe while pursuing their supplies eastward downriver towards Corinthia Landing[1] On September 1, 1818 – just three years after Battle Creek Massacre – members of the Cherokee Nation arrived at Fort Gibson on the Etowah River adjacent to present-day Sylacauga when Indian Removal Act Order No. 9 passed Governor Jefferson Davis' order compelling all Cherokees living east of Decatur Street within five miles (8 km) thereof to leave or be driven out[2] In compliance with this order all citizens between Decatur Street and Spring Hill Cemetery were ordered to move their homes six blocks southward along Beale Street including Mrs. Smith’s store( situated then at Third Street intersection)[3]. This arbitrary relocation would result in many residents moving outside their original homes altogether becoming refugees who lost everything they owned or had borrowed against such properties since occupancy began without warning other than notices distributed through townspeople[4]. The very next morning when Mrs. Smith woke up her entire family had been evacuated leaving behind nothing but possessions valued at $2 cash besides four horses worth $100 each [*] [*5]. The notice also stated: "If any person shall remain within said limits [i.e., within six blocks southward], thenceforward no Robinson house will be suffered to stand". As it turned out Mrs. Smith never received any notification whatsoever direct or indirect regarding her evacuation until long after she herself died unaware thereof†††* [*6][7] Many people assume that Mrs.*whatever formal name she may have been given prioritizes her safety & privacy *nods* I cannot do better than simply list every individual name mentioned herein so please bear with me as I try my hardest not TO include personal info above & thus avoid potential spoilers for future games etc...
