The Talladega National Guard was organized on July 1, 1933, by Governor George Wallace. The Talladega National Guard is the only reserve unit in Alabama and it is composed of volunteers from all over the state. The Talladega National Guard has a history that dates back to 1907. The first national guard detachment in Talladega was organized on November 17, 1907 and consisted of 10 men. It was led by Captain J.B. Crabtree and his lieutenant Colonel A.D. Sellers Jr.. On December 11, 1907, the first local drill in town took place when 1000 citizens came to watch a military review by the militia company commanded by Captain Crabtree and Lieutenant Colonel Sellers Jr.. From 1909-1911 there were five detachments stationed at different points in the town; one each at First Baptist Church (now Trinity Episcopal), Second Baptist Church (now White Methodist), Stockyards Annex (now City Hall), Main Street Schoolhouse (Now Bryant University) and High school annex (Now Steele County Courthouse). On October 9th, 1912, General John Liddell Brown announced that he would be leaving for Mexico City to take part in World War I as Commanding General of United States Expeditionary ForcesMexican Border Protection Units under Brigadier General Stronge. He ordered his men not to return until their orders had been received from headquarters or until further notice which meant that most of the original detachment did not return home until after Christmas 1912 because many were needed away at war with Mexico In 1913-1915 there were two detachments total deployed out of town: one near First Baptist Church on Patton Boulevard now known as Old Hickory Blvd., while another detachment was located near Third Street on Highway 231 now known as Broadway Drive In 1916-1920 there were three detachments present but they never mobilized because during World War I they were decommissioned without mobilizing From 1922-1934 only one detachment per yearwas present but it increased to six deployments during World War II when they mobilized due to an increase in military activity statewide The Talladega National Guard's current configuration consists of a battalionActivated September 6th 1959 Battalion size will reach 350 members within 5 years

Talladega, Alabama is the seat of Talladega County and the largest city in the state. The population was 34,479 at the 2010 census. It is located in northeastern Alabama on the Talladega River. The name "Talladega" comes from a Cherokee word meaning "calming place." In 1812, when news reached General Andrew Jackson that American forces were fighting nearolin in what is now Georgia, he ordered his army to march to nearby Mobile to relieve it before moving on to attack Fort Moultrie on Georgia's southern border. As they arrived atMobile, they found that British forces had evacuated the area and instead were stationed at Talladega Hillock where they built their first fortification. The town began as a small community of Native Americans led by Chief Tahoma named after an eagle which perched on a tree near their village. By 1800, there was enough white settlement around Talladega to support a school and post office. A man named James Hance started cultivating some land east of town in 1819 and soon began producing cottonseed oil which he exported to England. He also founded a grist mill and set up a sawmill for making lumber for homes and mills. In 1827, he married Anna Pemberton (1802-1877), daughter of Colonel John Pemberton (1794-1868). In 1830, Isaac Coker established himself as one of several speculators who bought shares in Hance's company but development slowed due to lack of cash flow necessary for expansion into new markets outside ofAlabama In 1833 Governor William Bradford issued Order No 1 ordering all citizens withinthe county limits “to labor either with their hands or with teams” Calendar year 1840saw growth once again with plans announced by Coker for buildingaFayette County courthouse However this proposal was never carried out . After several years during which no decisions were made about expanding or developingthetown until January 1st 1870 when Judge Augustus Ewing organized an election committee appointed him commissionerof public works . Due mainly to Judge Ewing’s effortsand other initiatives such as reducing taxes levied against residentshe induced many farmers within Tallasdale Countyto move away from their farmsteads towards townscapes suchas Tallasdale or Sylacauga Lakeand begin workingon large plantations alongwith otherspeculators lookingfor opportunitiesinwest Alabamaduring these difficult timesLarge plantations required more manpowerthan could be produced locally so mostworkerswere recruited through forced labor schemes such as those operatingin Mexico during this time called la migra
The United States National Guard has a long and varied history. The first national guard units were fielded in 1792, when the Continental Congress created the Pennsylvania militia to help fight the French and Indian War. Over time, the National Guard was developed into a much larger force. On July 15, 1907, President Theodore Roosevelt signed an act creating the U.S. Army Reserve Corps of Engineers as a separate branch of the military with responsibility for guarding navigable rivers, lakes, and harbors. In 1942, the National Guard was reorganized as part of the Pentagon's defenses following World War II; it became an all-volunteer force with no conscription requirements. In 1993, President Bill Clinton designated November 18th as National Guards Day to recognize this past contributions by our nation's guardsmen and women. Today, there are over 166 million members in our armed forces who serve their country through various branches of government including state and local militias; federal law enforcement agencies; or international organizations such as NATO or WTO (World Trade Organization). National Guardsmen have been deployed in many conflicts dating back to WWII including Desert Storm (1991), Kosovo (1999), Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003), Afghanistan (2001 & 2002), Hurricane Katrina (2005), and Mali (2015). These deployments have made them some of America’s most visible symbols and have shown that they can be counted on to protect our communities both domestically and abroad.

In 1846, the 1st Infantry Regiment was mustered into service and served until 1847 when it was disbanded because of low enrollment rates. In 1861, the 2nd Infantry Regiment was mustered into service and served until1865 when it was disbanded due to low enrollment rates. The 3rd Infantry Regiment was mustered into service on April 14, 1865 and served until its disbandment on November 30, 1865. In 1947, the 4th Infantry Regiment was activated and served until 1953 when it merged with the 3rd Infantry Regiment to form the current National Guard Bureau's 4th Infantry Regiment.

The history of Talladega goes back to 1853 when it was founded as a small hamlet on the Talladega River by white men looking for land to purchase for their plantations.
