The history of Gourmet Coffee begins with the coffee beans that were picked in Trussville, Alabama in 1915. The first coffee shop in Trussville was the General Coffee Store. In 1916, Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Fenton opened the First National Cafe in downtown Trussville and began serving fresh roasted coffee from their plantation near Montgomery, Alabama. In 1923, Jurgen Koch developed a process for roasting coffee called K-Cup® technology which revolutionized the way people enjoyed their coffee. With K-Cup®, customers could customize their cup by adding milk or cream to enhance its flavor profile. From there, Gourmet Coffee grew quickly and soon had stores throughout Alabama and Tennessee. In 1951, Gourmet Coffee moved its operations to Nashville where it continues to operate today as one of the largest independently owned businesses in Tennessee!

Trussville, Alabama is a small city in the U.S. state of Alabama and the seat of Trussville County. The population was 7,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Trussville County. The name "Trussville" is an anglicized form of "Trail's End." The first mention of Trussville in history was in 1785 when a group of Cherokee settlers traveled through this area on their way to Huntsville, Texas. In 1821, General Andrew Jackson crossed over the Coosa River here and his army built Fort Atkinson on present-day State Route 8 (now US 301). A post office called Trussville was established in 1827 and remained open until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1836, John Tyler founded what would become Tyler School near present day downtown Trussell. This school served as the local elementary school from 1836 to 1955; it now houses the Trussville Historical Museum adjacent to its original building on Main Street between Spring Street and Third Avenue. In 1865, Confederate General Robert Ewell made his headquarters at Fort Atkinson before retreating to Mobile Bayou after routing Union troops at Second Bull Run Bridge across that same river. In 1899, entrepreneur Marshall Fields opened his first grocery store in downtown Trussell which continues operation today as Marshall Fields Supermarket Incorporated with locations throughout central Alabama including Montgomery and Birmingham
