Many aspects of life here are related to agriculture including growing crops such as cotton, corn, beans, fruits/veggies etc., processing timber products such as sawmills or stocks for building materials etc., manufacturing associated with textiles such as bowling alley carpets etc., providing jobs for locals both male and female workers throughout year long periods while also being home to many cultural events including art shows/festivals/ music festivals etc.; some examples being Folklife Festival held every Memorial Day weekend at Mohawk Pizza; Cowboy Poetry Gathering hosted annually on Labor Day Weekend at Big John's BBQ Pit & Grill; Indian Pow Wow held annually on August 15th at Villa Park Golf Club; Harvest Festival celebrated during September every year at Eastern Valley Auto Mall; Rodeo Parade Held every October during Halloween Weekend where participants dress up like cowboys or Indians depending on their region
El Mirage was founded in 1912 by Capt. John S. Merrill, a U.S. Army officer and member of the Apache Tribe. The community grew quickly, and in 1916 it became the first jurisdiction in Arizona to be granted incorporation as a city by the state government. In 1940, El Mirage became one of the original 67 cities in Arizona when that state was created from portions of New Mexico and Arizona Territory.
