The Glendale National Guard was organized on December 15, 1912. The unit was originally called the Arizona National Guard, and served as a militia force in the state of Arizona from 1912 to 1914. The unit was then redesignated the Glendale National Guard on November 25, 1914. The Glendale National Guard participated in World War I andWorld War II. After the end of World War II, theGlendale National Guard disbanded on July 1, 1946. In 1951, the Glendale National Guardsmen were reactivated and re-designated as part of the United States Army's 5th Infantry Division (Alaska). On October 17, 1958 they deployed to South Korea with Operation Northwoods III as part of United States Forces Korea (USFK). They remained in South Korea until their return home on October 24th 1959. On May 14th 1971, President Richard Nixon activated the Glendale National Guard for a two-week deployment to Cambodia in support of Operation Neptune's Spear which aimed to suppress communist influence within Cambodia. The unit returned home on June 10th 1971 after completing their mission successfully.
