Kingman, Arizona is a small town located in Pima County, Arizona. The population was 3,814 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Tucson metropolitan area. Kingman was founded in 1887 by George King and his family. The town has been through many changes over the years, but its most famous resident remains George King himself. The first mention of Kingman comes from an Indian scout named Manuel Chavez who visited the area in 1887. He noted that there were two settlements called "Kingman" and "Arizona". In 1912, Territorial Governor James Irvine appointed a commissionership to explore possible towns within Pima County for annexation into the new state of Arizona. One of those commissioners was H T B Wahlgren, who recommended that Kingman be included in this study because it had good water supplies and had high potential for growth due to its location on both sides of a river. In 1913, when Wahlgren recommended that President Woodrow Wilson name Phoenix as the new county seat for Pima County, he also recommended that Kingman be annexed into Phoenix. However, this recommendation was not followed and Kingman remain an unincorporated community until 1959 when it became a city under then-Governor John Fife's administration. When Fife resigned in 1959 after being named U S Ambassador to Rome, former Governor Nelson A Robinson took over as governor and announced plans to annex all of Pima County into Arizona as part of his plan to promote more centralized government across the state. This plan never came true; however, Robinson's successor Neil Goldwater did eventually annex all of Pima County into Arizona as part of his campaign promise during the 1964 presidential election campaign. Today, much like before it has been distorted by sheriff's departments trying to enforce their own laws while people try generally ignore them or worse yet turn their backs on them completely-it still holds onto some semblance of decency despite all these attempts at destruction by those with power over us (the government). Despite this lack though there are moments throughout day or night where you hear laughter coming from down Main Street or someone calling out 'HeyEOF!' just outside store windows without any provocation once making themselves known which always makes me smile knowing how things can still godespite everything

The Kingman area has been inhabited for more than 12,000 years and its first European settlers arrived in 1867. In 1912, Kingman became a territorial city and was named after Major General George Armstrong Custer who fought in the American Civil War. The city was re-established as a community in 1959 and has since grown to be one of the most popular tourist destinations in Arizona. The history of Kingman begins with its first European settlers, who arrived here from Missouri in 1867. At that time, this area was part of Mexico and tribes were fighting over land grants given to them by Spain. When hostilities ended, Mexican citizens returned to their ancestral lands and began granting deeds of donation to individuals and families who wanted to settle hereabouts. Initially called Indianola (Land Grant Town), Kingman grew rapidly due to these donations and other contributions from early pioneers. Today’s downtown is evidence of how quickly this community developed: A two-lane street running through downtown served as an informal road meeting daily business transactions until 1914 when it was widened into what today is known as First Street; now known as Main Street. On July 15th 1908 a group of men under the leadership of Hiram Sibley founded what would become Copper Canyon Mining Company – America’s first copper mine! This venture led to Gadsden Junction becoming one of America’s leading transportation centers for copper ore exports; supplying mills throughout North America with raw material for industry up until World War II! With numerous businesses lining Main Street including banks (Jensen & Clark Bros., Wells Fargo & Co.), grocery stores (Dentons Hardware Store), post office (Kingman Post Office) along with several hotels such as Western Hotel (now Scotts Valley Resort Casino) – all within easy walking distance – life must have been very busy for those early pioneers! Today’s downtown contains many examples from that era such as the Eureka Springs water tower which still stands tall today – almost 100 years old! Additionally there are many artifacts associated with that time period such as pioneer clothing items found at various locations around town which can be seen on display at local museums like Museum Of Native American History upstairs at Chandler Library/Museum Of Northern Arizona downstairs; both open every day except Christmas!
