Gift for Man History in Blytheville, Arkansas Blytheville is a small town located in Pulaski County, Arkansas. It was founded in 1881 by John and Esther Price. The original post office was called Blytheville, but it was renamed to its current name in 1907. The Price family still live in the town and are buried there. In addition to John Price, other early settlers include Daniel Cook and his wife Nancy; Ebenezer Cook (a brother of Daniel); Mary Ann Dowling (daughters of Ebenezer Cook); Hannah Stephenson; Fanny Hammonds; Lavinia Smith; James Clements (brother-in-law of Fanny Hammonds); and Richard Hatchcock. Today, many of the original residents have passed away or moved away, but their memories remain wide-ranging and deeply entrenched within the community. The first store in Blytheville opened its doors on Main Street in 1881. At that time, it was one of the most popular business locations in town because it had a large variety of goods available for sale both inside and outside the store. Over time, various businesses have been opened within the confines of the grocery store including a post office annex which served as an additional general store until 1916 when mail service grew too unreliable to maintain such a facility; an ice cream parlor which operated from about 1902 until 1936; two blacksmith shops from about 1903 until 1921; and finally the present day grocery store building which has served as its longtime home since 1904. One significant event that occurred during this early period was the purchase by Jno Haines of land south of Main Street on which he built what is now known as Haines Park Cemetery. This cemetery became one of Blytheville's most important resources over time as it allowed for increased numbers burial services to be performed without having to travel far into neighboring towns - something that greatly aided local commerce at a time when transportation options were limited! Additionally, due to its location just off main street near many economic amenities like schools and churches, Blytheville quickly emerged as one of river rat country's busiest communities with active retail districts lining both sides of Magnolia Avenue throughout much of the late 19th century. Arkansas Route 9 runs through downtown Blytheville with access from both streetscape roads on one side only before turning northeast onto US 92 Alternate which becomes Cumberland Road/US 4 Alternate closer to Walmart Mall on one side then becoming Main Street again before terminating at US 92/Arkansas Route 9 exit #2A just east of Interstate 220

The town was founded in 1881 by members of the Methodist Church and named for Dr. Blythe Waddell, who had been instrumental in helping to found the church there. Blytheville became a city on April 6, 1959 when it incorporated as a result of an Act of Congress passed by the United States Congress under the name "Arkansas City". It was renamed Blytheville on October 15, 1984 after Miss Gertrude Blyth (1867-1957), daughter of J. Edgar Thomson du Pont which made her one of Arkansas' most famous women citizens. Today's economy focuses on manufacturing and transportation businesses such as trucking and shipping services; as well as tourism with its many attractions including five casinos and four theme parks located within walking distance of the city limits.
