Blytheville is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,547 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Springdale Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Blytheville were pioneers who arrived there in 1836. They were led by Daniel Boone and other frontiersmen who had come overland from Kentucky and Tennessee. By 1840, the area around present-day Blytheville had been claimed by some Methodists as an agricultural community called Zion Baptist Church (later renamed First Baptist Church). This early settlement was located on the south side of Arkansas River about three miles west of what is now North Main Street. In 1881, a group of farmers named Hinson moved to what is now Blytheville from their farmstead at West Helena, Arkansas. They founded a post office here and named it after their daughter, Bessie Hinson Burnett. In 1906, they added land to their holdings which included present-day South Main Street and east side of the river. That year also saw the opening of the first store in what became Blytheville when Aiken & Watkins opened its doors on Third Street just north of present day East Main Street. In 1925, Majestic Production Company began operations as one of several new businesses founded in Pulaski County during that period by John Denny Sr.. The company produced mules for bringing goods across country between Memphis and Dallas using wagons pulled by teams of mules called "Denny's."
