Conway is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,724 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Conway, AR Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by pioneer Capt. John Dickson and his wife Margarita in 1871 as a ranching community on the east bank of the White River. Dickson named it for General George Washington Conway who had fought with him during the American Revolution. The first store and post office were built in 1872; both buildings remain standing today. In 1886, David Nunn bought all of what became Conway from Capt. John Dickson and renamed it Nunnville after himself and his wife Nancy; this name lasted until 1959 when it was changed to Conway again because of its location within Pulaski County limits only The growth of agriculture in Conway began with the arrival of an influx of German farmers around 1870. By 1900 there were over 100 farms operating in Conway; these included such major crops as cotton, corn, hay fever vaccine, oats, wheat and other grains, cattle, sheep and poultry products., potatoes (the town's first crop), tomatoes (a new crop) and other vegetables In 1907-08 school consolidation took place in Pulaski County so that students could attend schools near their homes; Conway High School remained closed for some years because its land lay outside the county boundaries A post office called Connersville was established at least twice but never opened due to lack of support from government officials . In 1916-17 Rufus Fenton set up a feed mill at what is now Westport Road where he processed animal feed into flour which he sold to local merchants . A bluegrass band known as The Westerners played regularly at Fenton's mill until World War II when air raids destroyed most mills west of Memphis . After World War II many people left or moved away from Conway because of economic conditions – including many farmers who lost their jobs due to mechanization

Conway is a small town in Arkansas. It was founded in 1884 by J.B. Conway, and it has been the home of the Conway Independent School District since 1903. The town has a population of about 2,500 people today. Conway is located on the eastern banks of the Arkansas River, northeast of Little Rock. It is bordered to the east by White Sands National Monument and to the north by Liberal County. The townsite was named for J.B. Conway, who had come from Ireland in 1871 to start a farm near present-day Conwayville. The first school in Conway was built in 1884 by J.B. Conway himself; it served as an elementary school until 1923 when it became part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock School District . In 1903, however, the United States Congress passed legislation creating THE FIRST COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT IN ARKANSAS (Conway ISD). This district contained all of present-day Arkansas except for White Sands National Monument and Liberal County; all students were must attend CONWAY High School or local public schools . The first school buildings were erected on what are now Old Main & North Main Streets; construction began on these two blocks in early October 1903 and continued through December that year . The new district included both Conways – which at that time numbered just over 1,000 residents – and 11 other rural villages within its borders . As part of this reorganization process , ALL CONWAY STUDENTS WERE REQUIRED TO ATTEND THE NEW CONWAY HIGH SCHOOL OR LOCAL PUBLIC SCHOOLS ; THIS WAS A HUGE DECISION FOR BEGINNINGS AS IT SUPPLIED MORE CLASSES AND MADE LIFE MUCH EASIER FOR PARENTS AMONGST THEIR CHILDREN In 1924, THE CONWAY INDUSTRIAL COLONY WAS ESTABLISHED ! THIS WAS A HUGE MASSIVE BUILDING THAT INCLUDED AN HVAC SYSTEM, 10 LAND USES , A FARMHOUSE , 3 GARDENS & 8 FARMS .. TODAY MANY OF THESE FACILITIES ARE still standing !!
