Hope has experienced economic stagnation since then as its unemployment rate has ranged between 10% and 15%. However, Mayor Hickey's plan has resulted in increased business activity including restaurants opening up along Center Street (); new housing being built (); and more people moving into town from elsewhere withinLittle Rock County. In recent years there have been multiple efforts made to attract businesses away from Hope due to its high joblessness rate but such initiatives have not always had success as businesses have typically found other locations within Benton County easier to establish roots than one located nearArkansas' most populous city.

Hope, Arkansas was founded on November 15, 1907 by J.W. Hope and his wife Anna. The town was named after Anna's great-grandmother who had died in 1881. Hope was a small town at the time it was founded and only had a total of 50 residents. By 1912, the community had grown to encompass 4 square miles and had a population of 350 people. In 1916, Hope became an organized city and continued to grow until it reached its current size of over 20 square miles with a population of over 1,000 people in 2018.
