Coffee. By the early 1970s, Gourmet Coffee had become one of Arkansas' leading coffee companies and produced more than 100 different flavors of beans. The company ceased operations in 1991 but has been revived several times since then as a small-scale roasting business with a focus on quality and customer service. Today, Johnson Bros.' The name "Jonesboro" comes from Andrew Johnson's hometown of Jonesborough (now part of Little Rock), Tennessee. The first permanent settler in what is now Jonesboro was George White in 1824. early settlers were Methodists and Presbyterians who came to Arkansas Territory from Tennessee to escape religious persecution there. Asboth white and black Arkansans had begun moving into the territory as slaves before it became a state, many people thought that Jonesborough would be just like any other small town in Arkansas Territory. When news arrived in December 1829 that Abraham Lincoln had been elected President of the United States and was expected to sign the Emancipation Proclamation making all slaves free within 7 years, most residents decided they needed to get out of Dodge before their home state got involved with this controversial issue. In 1830-31 only two families remained in Jonesborough; by 1835 all but one family had left for good due to changes at home and new opportunities elsewhere in the new state of Texas. In 1836 William Tipton purchased 640 acres (258 hectares) southeast of present-day Jonesboro from James Bowie for $10 per acre ($2 per hectare). This land lay east of what is now Interstate 40 and southwest of downtown Jonesboro on lands that are now part of Parkland Elementary School complex on Park Lane SW., adjacent to Fort Worth Baptist Church property which housed much military activity during World War II JAIL BATTLE: On July 26th 1863 Union General Sterling Price drove Confederate General Robert Ewell’s cavalry westward across country about 12 miles (19 km) northwest of present day Harrisonburg Junction where they met Major General Thomas J Jackson’s infantry brigade under Lieutenant Colonel Israel Putnam marching towards Winchester – this action led directly to Battle Creek Bridge where Confederate General Robert Ewell galloped his horse over while surrounded by Federal troops reported as numbering 5000 men against only 10 Union soldiers

Inexpensive, pre-packaged gourmet coffee quickly became a popular choice for those looking for high quality caffeine with minimal fuss. In Europe, gourmet coffee started off as a more upscale version of instant coffee. This version was typically made with higher quality beans and served in more expensive restaurants or bars. The first true gourmet Coffee Roasters emerged in the late 1800s in Europe, starting with Balthazar in Paris and eventually expanding internationally (e.g., Harbinger Coffees). These roasters were able to source only the best quality beans from around the world and deliver them directly to their customers’ doors. This setup allowed for much greater control over each cup of coffee than traditional instant machines could provide (i.e., less wastage), which gave these roasters an edge over their competitors. During World War II, many specialty grocery stores began stocking Gourmand Coffee products such as espresso torpedoes (a type of French press filter cake) instead of regular Instant Coffee because it was wartime rationed
