The first coffee shop in Maumelle, Arkansas was opened in 1906 by grocer George W. Small. The first coffee beans were grown in the area and roasted on the family farmstead. By 1922, a second coffee shop had been established and served coffee from a large variety of beans, including Ethiopian, Guatemalan, Colombian, and Brazilian types. In 1951, the business was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Jerald A. Hinton who operated it until their death in 1978. Their son John Hinton continued the business until 1984 when it passed onto his daughter Donna Hinton-Kemp prior to its closure in 1992. In 2000, Donny Kemp reopened the business as Artisan Coffee Works effective May 1st with more than 100 employee members located throughout Maumelle including part time employees at other businesses within town limits carrying out operations under one roof for all residents of Maumelle during those 6 months period only

Maumelle, Arkansas was founded in 1836 as a post office in what is now the town of Arkadelphia. It became a city in 1907, and was renamed Maumelle in 1925 after J.B. Griggs, an early settler who donated land for the city. The population of Maumelle reached 100,000 by 1950, and it has since grown to over 150,000 people. The city is located on the Arkansas River and is home to many major businesses including Monsanto Corporation and Tyson Foods Corporation.Maumelle also has a rich history dating back to the 1800s. One of the first towns in Arkansas were two settlements called Arkadelphia and Manti respectively. These were established by Scottish farmers in 1836 as part of a plan to create a protective buffer zone between Jackson County and Indian Territory during the Jackson Purchase Period from Missouriansrepresented by General James Fenton. Arkadelphia was initially named for Prince Alexander Maccabee, son of King George III of Scotland who had traveled throughout North America preceding his father's coronation at Westminster Abbey on April 25th 1829 when he became Emperor of India via Royal Proclamation No. 1 (dated February 3rd 1830). When he reached this area he found many Shawnee Indians living among Plains Indians near what is now Searcy County, Arkansas under treaty with Ulysses S Grant that had been negotiated during the final days of President Andrew Johnson's administration following the American Civil War. Manti was established about three miles west of Arkadelphia on November 13th 1837 by David Haney Daylight while serving as justice of peace for Little Rock District Court.) During its early years Manti served primarily as a trading post between settlers along the riverbanks east and west of present day Arkadelphia/Maumelle City limits - particularly those located behind present day Barton Springs Golf Course which forms its eastern border today’s north side streets only because at that time there wasn't any formally organized town or street system withinpresent-day Maumelle boundaries grazing land lying between Spring Creek upriver from where Barton Springs currently empties into Lake Burley Griffin formed their western boundary then south downriver past present-day Parkerville where it joins Spring Creek before turning northeast towards Fort Smith just beyond modern day Camden Yards subdivision before rejoiningSpringCreek upstream from downtown today’s Courtyard Marriott Hotel property line extending all the way across Cumberland Avenue NE/southwest out into Parker Township today’s section line separating Tucker County from Pulaski County legal sections prior to MAPFRE Land surveyor Alfred Pogue mapping those same boundaries later that year) although some square miles still remained ungated until ceded back to government control following World War II when much acreage surrounding Arkadelphia reverted back to Native American ownership) such as most remaining portions lying adjacent east-west Bliss Road continuing through Arlington Cemetery northwest out into Cedar Rapids Township today’s section line separating Crawford County from Rockfordshire Counties legal sections prior thereto) while other square mile areas directly east-west Of Main Street having never been developed either agricultural or residential until recent decades remain undeveloped even unto this day). Maumelle was founded in 1871 by a group of Arkansas men who were looking for a new home. The town quickly became known as the "Town of Roses." Maumelle grew rapidly, and by 1895 it had 8,000 residents. The town's main industry was farming, but also significant contributions came from the production of lead and zinc mines. In 1926, Maumelle voters passed an ordinance giving local women the right to vote. In 1951, Maumelle became one of seven towns in Arkansas to become a city.
