Some elements of these units continued operations until 1922 when they too were mustered out; however, most companies remained inactive for another decade or so before finally being reactivated under new command structure on May 1st 1923 as Headquarters Company (HC) 8th Regiment Arkansas National Guard at Maumelle Barracks #527-2121 . On October 7th 1935 a group of officers from HQ 8th ARNG met at First Baptist Church in downtown Maumelle and adopted a resolution calling for formation of an Alabama Brigade within Headquarters company Limits which would include personnel from Illinois ,Oklahoma ,New Mexico Territory & Kansas Territory On November 3rd 1935 HC 8th ARNG organized 1st Battalion Alabama Brigade consisting principally of soldiers from Louisiana Territory who had just transferred into our unit And so it begins... right here in Maumelle

Maumelle was founded in 1868 by Methodist missionaries from Tennessee. The first post office in Maumelle was established in 1865, and the first store opened in 1870. The present day courthouse was built in 1903, and the town hall and other local buildings were built between 1951 and 1957. In 1966, Maumelle became home to the world's second tornado outbreak of that size on record—the event measured EF5 on the Enhanced Fujita scale. The Maumelle-Hilton Dole Mills shopping center located within walking distance of most businesses has been a key cultural attraction for many years now, hosting popular events such as live music concerts and film screenings throughout the year.
The town of Maumelle, located in Pulaski County, Arkansas was founded in 1868 by General James K. Polk and his wife Julia Child. Mrs. Child had come to the United States from France on a combined American-French steam packet and landed at Beaumont, Texas on September 11th of that year. After spending some time working as a maid in New Orleans before moving to Fort Smith, she met General Polk while he was commandant of the fort. The two were married on October 2nd of that year and soon moved to Maumelle where they started a small grocery store which soon became successful. The couple also hired local farmers as their employees and built a home for themselves at 100 South Second Street. They were able to provide much needed food for the community during difficult times and remain active members of the community until their death in 1978.
