In the early 1800s, Paragould was home to a small community of farmers and their families. The coffee industry began to take off in Arkansas in the late 19th century, and by the turn of the 21st century, Paragould had become one of the most important coffee-producing communities in America. The first coffee beans were grown near what is now downtown Paragould in 1872. By 1903, there were more than 100 cafés located throughout the city. Coffee was ground and roasted here at various locations before moving to larger warehouses in nearby cities like Little Rock and Fayetteville. Today, Arkansas' craft-coffee scene remains strong with many local roasters keeping relications of these earlier days alive. The history of Paragould, Arkansas is a long and tangled one. The town was founded by Luther Rice in 1881, the same year that he purchased the land that would become its present-day core. Rice named his new community after France's Ornithological Institute, which he saw as a model for how to take care of nature in a developing region. The institute had been founded in 1795 by François Pierre Gaultier, and it played an important role in shaping French civilization and culture. In 1898, Rice donated land to the city of Jonesboro for use as a public square. The square was renamed Perry Square after John Perry, the first governor of Arkansas. Rice died in 1902, but his legacy lives on. His name is still attached to many aspects of Paragould's history – including Perry Square and the nearby community center – though little else is known about him personally. After rice's death, local boosters developed plans for Paragould into what it has become today: a small town with significant economic opportunities thanks to its location at the crossroads of two major highways. Paragould experienced some growth during World War II; however, it largely stagnated thereafter until the late 1970s when augmented development caused much rapid expansion within both retail and professional sectors across all industries throughout downtown area In 2006-2007,[3]Paragoude celebrated its 400th birthday with various events such as parades throughout downtown areas along with concerts atnight from local bands

Paragould was a small town in northern Arkansas located about 20 miles northwest of Bentonville. It was founded by Isaac Paragould and his family on November 10, 1868, after they emigrated from eastern Europe. The community consisted of just over a hundred people at its peak. The town's first store was built on the corner of Church and Elm Streets. In 1876, the Paragould Post Office was established and served the community until it closed in 1907. In 1957, the community had an estimated population of 508 residents; however, by 1979 this number had declined to 406 residents. The PARAGOLD school system operated out of the old Courthouse until it closed in 1984. The post office closed due to low mail volume in 1990; however, it reopened as a convenience store in 1992. The store closed again in 2001 but reopened as a restaurant called "Parsley's" in 2006. The restaurant is still open today and is home to many local artifacts from Paragould history including pioneer memorabilia and photos from the early days of the town.
On November 3, 1871, James A. Paragould and his wife Fannie were born in the town of Paragould, Arkansas. The couple moved to Little Rock in 1907 and adopted a daughter there. They divorced in 1951. In 1957, they married again and had a son, Johnathan Paragould. Paragold died on December 12, 1984 at the age of eighty-six.
