Paragould is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–Fayetteville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit what is now Paragould was an American Revolutionary War soldier and scout named David Garrick who named it for his home country of Great Britain. He had been lost during the war and eluded capture for many weeks by following Indian trails through the Ozarks before finally finding refuge in what is now Arkansas. Garrick's discovery of a salt lick on the edge of a swamp led him to name this area "Garrick's Salt Lick". When white men arrived in Arkansas in 1821 they beganuer mining for coal and gold but found only sandstone and shale as ore minerals. A group of seven men from Tennessee formed the nucleus of the first local company which organized as the Paragould Mining Company in 1827. In 1830 John Sibley founded Sibley & Sons Grain Mill near downtown Paragould with millstones imported from England. By 1840 there were over 20 businesses operationally connected with early industry including stores, hotels, grocery stores, two banks and three churches.- -In 1850 Paragoldia Grist Mill went into production when Don Waddell came across ground fracased granite that he had been searching for since 1848 when he discovered Garnet Hillwhich later became known as Marble Hill Mine- -In 1861 Milton Bradley established Bradley & Hensley Cotton Ginnery on High Street between Main and Wilkinson Streets which produced cotton until it closed in 1984- -In 1865 Hiram Bowen founded Bowen Sugar Beets on North Third Street west of town limits where sugar beets were processed into syrup until they closed down in 1985-. A post office called "Parragell" was established at this site on November 14, 1867; it continued operating under that name until May 10, 1880 when it changed its name to "Paragould". The present spelling (and entirely new orthography) dates back to 1886 when residents voted to switch from original English spellings to modernity after becoming aware that their predecessors had continued using an older form which caused confusion among locals about family relationships.- -The first school built in Paragoudia was a one room log cabin erected by teacher Isaac Fenton in 1870/71.- -One hundred years ago on January 9th 1907 there was also a large parade held throughout all parishes attended by some 8500 people

Paragould was a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, located on the east side of the Arkansas River. The population was 350 at the 2000 census. It is now a ghost town and census-designated place. The first settler in Paragould was James Hinton, who arrived in 1827. He founded a log cabin on the west side of the river. Paragould became a trading post and ferry landing for settlers traveling to Indian Territory downriver. In 1844, white men discovered oil shale near what is now Paragould and began to explore its potential as an oil refinery. By 1865, there were over 100 people living in Paragoult
