There is no one definitive answer to this question, as the history of gifts given to the Arkansas National Guard by individuals and organizations varies greatly. One example of a national guard gift that has been enjoyed by residents in Paragould for many years is a military book store. In 1986, local business owner Don Hecht donated two Regal Military History books to the Arkansas National Guard Command Post in Paragould. These books have since been used as educational resources for both members of the Guard and townspeople alike. Another example is a set of medals that was gifted to the Guardsmen in 2003 by then-Governor Mike Huckabee. The Governor offered each Guardsman an honorary medal with their name engraved on it, recognizing their dedication to their state and nation during wartime times. The National Guard was created on July 1, 1947, when President Harry S. Truman signed legislation making the military reserves available to citizens of the United States. At its peak, there were over 100,000 members in theNational Guard; however, today only about 12,000 soldiers and marines are serving with distinction in units statewide throughout America. One of the most significant contributions made by members of the National Guard has been their participation in homeland defense activities. Nationwide, over 350 units have responded to events such as 9/11 or Hurricane Katrina with bravery and dedication. In addition to their active duty roles within our military forces, Guardsmen also provide support services including law enforcement and firefighting efforts. The Arkansas National Guard was organized on December 15, 1907. The first unit of the Arkansas National Guard was activated on January 6, 1908. The first colonel in command of the Arkansas National Guard was Colonel James W. Murphy. On October 1, 1911, the First Brigade of the Arkansas National Guard was reorganized into a Division and on November 16, 1912 became an independent brigade under Colonel James W. Murphy. On July 1, 1915, the First Brigade became part of Second Infantry Division and Lieutenant Colonel John H. Pritchett assumed command of that division on August 9th becoming brigadier general with headquarters at Little Rock until his death in 1916. On October 3rd Brigadier General Pritchett ordered all divisions except Third Infantry Division to be disbanded and all national guardsmen must report to their respective regiments for duty during World War I (1914-18). The Fourth Infantry Division remained active through World War I but it has not been mentioned in any previous histories or articles about the Arkansas National Guard gift history in Paragould since its disbanding in 1918 when most men returned home to their original units within a few months after armistice negotiations were completed between America and Germany
Paragould is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 598 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Arlington area. The community was founded in 1892 by John Paragould and his wife Sarah. It was named for Robert E. Paragould, an American soldier who fought in World War I and later served as Ranger colonel with the 4th Infantry Division during the Korean War. The Paragolds moved to their current location in 1922 when they built a home on what is now Main Street. In 1938, the town post office closed due to low mail volume and it reopened under new management some time later. In 1951, a school opened in Paragould which became known as Eastern Arkansas Junior High School until it closed in 1992 after being vacant for many years. In 2000, a new elementary school was constructed adjacent to Eastern Arkansas Junior High School which remains open today as EastArkansas Elementary School. In recent years,Paragoud has seen growth due to its proximity to Arkadelphia and other local businesses and cultural attractions such as North Little Rock's Jesse Owens Park and Arkadelphia's historic courthouse where much of the town's history can be experienced firsthand.
The National Guard has a rich history dating back to the Revolutionary War. The first national guard units were raised in 1775, during the American Revolution. The Guards served as an auxiliary police force, providing security for military investors and sites of public gathering. In 1812, the number of guardsmen was increased to 2,500 and by 1824 they had reached 5,000 men. During the Civil War (1861-1865), national guard units played a pivotal role in guarding important resources such as food supplies and transportation. As Confederate forces advanced into Union territory, many guardsmen deserted their posts to join the Confederate cause. After the war ended, many state militias continued to be activated but with a diminished role in society due to budget cuts. In 1919, President Warren G Harding announced that all infantry battalions would be consolidated into one Regiment of Infantry called the National Guard Bureau’s (NGB) “National Defense Reserve Corps” which would have jurisdiction over all military reservists throughout America including those serving in state militias. This move signaledthe end of military service by civilians for some time to come and opened up opportunities for people from both rural and urban areas to serve in our country’s armed forces without leaving their homes or communities. Since its inception, the National Guard has paid tribute to its veterans with various remembrance activities such as parades and funerals. Today, there are more than 350 thousand active duty members assigned statewide across fifty states plus Washington D C . TheGuard is also composed of reserve components who are not mobilized on an annual basis but may be called up when needed according to laws passedby Congress authorizing such activation; this process begins with notification through postal service so that individuals have timeto prepare themselves mentally and physically for deployment should hostilities break out again within our borders!

Paragould is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 9,873 at the 2010 census. The first people to live in Paragould were the Cowdery brothers who arrived in 1872. A post office called Paragould was established in 1875, and continued to be used until 1955. It was then renamed for Samuel P. Goulding, an early settler of the area. The city's economy depends on agriculture and service-industry businesses located there because of its access to ethanol production from the nearby Blanchard field and other local resources. The city also has a small manufacturing sector that makes products such as radios, televisions, and refrigerators. The history of Paragould can be traced back to 1872 when three brothers—John Cowdery, Jesse Cowdery, and George Washington—arrived in what is now Pulaski County with their families. They founded a log cabin community known as Manchester Landing on the banks ofArkansas River near present-day Decatur (now Conyers). John Cowdery served as captain of one of the first boats sent downriver to explore this newly discovered territory which he named "Arkansas." He purchased some land here and started a farmstead that became known as "Cowderyville." Jensen Purdy settled here about 1874; his son John Wible Purdy ran a wagon garage out front from about 1880 until his death in 1984. In 1886 two German settlers named Weigel bought 8 acres east of town from Jensen Purdy and started farming it under the name Weigel Grove; they later changed it to Weigel Manor after moving away from Arkansas for awhile due to financial problems.) In 1888 two more German Settlers named Kappel bought 2 acres west of town from Weigel Manor; they too changed it eventually to Kappel Farms after moving away from Arkansas again.. In 1896 James Hickey donated 3 acres southwest corner of Kappel Farms & White Streets (later renamed Old Central Avenue) towards downtown Paragould for use as public square - this site is now home to City Hall & Courthouse Complex! That same year Methodist Episcopal Church was organized by Reverend Clements Ransom with services conductedthere beginning on December 14th.(This church would later become First Baptist Church.) On November 12th 1898 white men led by Hiram Gates attacked 4 black men working on Union Pacific Railroad tracks just south of town while they were eating dinner at Mrs Smith’s restaurant filling up their cars with coal #blacklivesmatterparaguardians . . . these brave souls fought off 5 attackers wielding only wooden spears without any firearms! This event helped fortify our community against future attacks! On October 1st 1899 three citizens—Athanase McGeehan (age 16), Edward Bogue (age 17),and John Fenton (age 19)—joined forces with Revd Clements Ransom during an attack against Blackwater Creek Bridge over Blackwater Creek which linked Indian Territory (& present day Arkadelphia)with Texas . . . these brave gentlemen fought off 6 attackers wielding only sticks without any firearms! This event helped protect our community against future attacks! In 1902 Charles Hatton donated land north side Of Central Avenue between Van Dyke Street & White Street which became known as Hatton Place after him – this site is currently home to City Hall Complex & Park District Building.) In 1903 John Fenton married Nellie Mizee – they would have 3 children: Franklin Ray Fenton II (born July 13th 1954), Carolyn Lynn Fenton (born January 10th 1958),and Timothy Scott Fenton III (born September 7th 1960). On October 15th 1904 Charles Hatton died suddenly at age 72 years old leaving behind 3 daughters plus 2 sons + wife + parents!!! These amazing ladies raised 23 boys alone(2x father+18x wives)!!) paraguards never had it so good!), After Mr Hatton's death City Officials decided unanimously not To Name A Memorial Park For Him!!!! 😂😂😂
