These new base numbers reflect America’s growing need for military assistance against totalitarianism around the world. As World War II began, USS Pueblo became America’s first commissioned warship to serve with her country’s Pacific Fleet during World War II (1939-1945). She served as flagship of Rear Admiral John Wohlgemuth during most operations off Japan; shelled Okinawa; escorted convoys to Saipan; bombed Kwajalein Atoll; supported amphibious assaults on Iwo Jima and Okinawa; screened Allied bombers over Japan; and took part in Operation Crossroads—the strategic bombing campaign against Nazi Germany that began on September 3rd 1944 (the day after Enola Gay shot down Japanese aircraft carrier Nagato). After World War II ended, many warships were sold or mothballed by various navies around the world. USS Pueblo was finally decommissioned at San Diego in 1951 “due to budgetary limitations associated with Amendments No 2[sic] & 3[sic] of Public Law 94-647 [the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1995], which reauthorized appropriations received under section 505(b) [of Title 10]. She remained out of service until 1984 when she was sold to South Korea." Paragould is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white man to arrive in what is now Paragould was James A. Dooley on July 3, 1877. He named the village after his wife's brother-in-law, Arthur Parley. Dooley and his family were killed by Indians in 1878 while exploring new land near present day Arkadelphia. In 1886, JB Henson established a gristmill here that still operates and produces flour and other feeds for local farmers. Other early businesses included a post office (1893), two stores (1907), a school (1909), and an agricultural fairgrounds which served as a community center until it burned down in 1951. Paragould is a small, unincorporated community in Boone County, Arkansas, United States. It is located on the east bank of the Little Arkansas River. The population was 1 at the 2010 census. The community was laid out by J. C. Paragould and named for him. A post office was established atParagould in 1885, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1970. The first settler in Paragould was James Hickey, who arrived there about 1873. He built a cabin on the site which still stands today. Other early settlers include Isaac Denton, Ebenezer Cook and Frederick Witherspoon.
