Sherwood is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Sherwood is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now Sherwood were Methodist Episcopal missionaries who left from Nashville, Tennessee in 1875 to start a church and school here. They named their new community after Hernando de Soto's stronghold of San Miguel de Allende on the Mexican border, which they thought would be an ideal place to raise children because of its isolation and lack of other people. The current site of Sherwood was chosen by the missionaries for its well-watered location and easy access to water from several springs that ran through the area. Sherwood had two stores when it became a town in 1907. One store operated until 1951 and was known as the Merchants grocery store. A second store opened in 1959 and is now known as the First National Bank building. After World War II, many farmers moved into Sherwood from surrounding counties including White County, Arkansas; Donelson County;and Pulaski County to take advantage of the new irrigation systems that had been developed in those areas. In 1957, Sheriff Alonzo Peebles was elected sheriff after running against incumbent Bill Cagle on promises to improve law enforcement services and reduce crime rates in his community during his term as sheriff general of Pulaski County (1956-1960).During Peebles' time as sheriff general he also established or improved a number of police substations throughout Pulaski County including one located at Sherwood High School which later became known as "Pulaski Park Patrol." During his time as sheriff general he also spearheaded efforts to build a courthouse here which opened in 1960 and served as home court for most Pulaski County criminal prosecutions until 1994 when that function transferred to the Arkansas Court House system statewide

It is part of the Little Rock-North Little Rock-south Little Rock metropolitan area. Sherwood has a history that goes back to 1879. The first settlers in what is now Sherwood were white men from Illinois and Kentucky who journeyed through southern Arkansas on their way to prospect for oil and other minerals. They named their new community "Sherwood" after one of their own villages in those countries. In 1907, the post office in Sherwood was renamed "Pulaski". The town's economy has been based largely on agriculture since its early days. Many of Sherwood's residents are descendants of people who came to the area during the late 1800s to work on the railroadroads that ran through eastern Pulaski County. As more people moved into the town, they started businesses such as grocery stores, lumberyards, and meatpacking plants. Over time, some of these businesses have grown quite large and continue to operate today; however, most have closed or been taken over by larger competitors. The largest flour mill in Arkansas was built in Sherwood by J C Vanderpool in 1951; it still operates today and exports flour all over the world. Today's downtown district contains several blocks of historical buildings dating from before World War II when Sheriff Donny Boggs led an effort to clean up litter and improve public facilities in Pulaski County: sheriff's court (1938), jail (1950), county courthouse (1952), state capitol building annex (1963), post office annex (1968), library Annex (1970). A few blocks away are several dozen houses built between 1940 and 1952 as part of a housing project developed by local officials concerned about rising prices for agricultural land around Pulaski City Center; these houses remain standing although some windows have been replaced with plastic sheeting due to vandalism over time Other historic buildings located within walking distance include: First Baptist Church which dates back to 1881; Methodist Episcopal Zion Church which dates back to 1903; Warsaw Methodist Episcopal Church which dates back to 1865; Green Valley Schoolhouse which was built c1880; Allis Chalmers Mfg Co warehouse - also known as Butte’s Warehouse until 1978 when it became Northwest Arkansas Beef Packers Inc.; Post Office Building erected 1923 - original use being general store
