The Connecticut Air National Guard’s 173rd Fighter Wing has been deployed to New London, Connecticut in support of Operation Allied Force. The Wing is providing fighter jets and fuel to NATO member nations fighting in Yugoslavia and Afghanistan. New London Mayor John DeFrancisco congratulated the air force on their deployment, stating that they are a great asset to the community. The mayor also mentioned that the air force is responsible for keeping the city running smoothly during wartime.

New London is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 23,717 at the 2010 census. It is the largest town in the state of Connecticut by both population and area. New London has been home to a variety of cultures since its earliest days as an English settlement on the east coast of Long Island. In 1812, it became part of the newly created State of Connecticut when that state was founded. The town's rich history and architecture are evident in its nearly 300 buildings dating from 1795 to 1955. The first permanent settlers arrived in what is now New London in 1636 under Captain John Smith and his men after they successfully landed on Long Island at Sandy Hook Bay from England with supplies for their expedition against Native Americans. After several years established themselves here, they named their new town "New London". On October 14, 1638, during King Philip's War (16 Pocomoke Wars), General Thomas Walker discovered land grant number 2 along the Mystic River which included present-day New London and some adjacent towns including Watertown and Bridgeport. This led to rapid growth within the new community as people began to settle here for religious reasons or because there were valuable resources nearby such as coal mines and lead mines. In 1795, Congress passed a bill creating Hartford County; New London became one of its original townships within that county. With steady growth throughout the 19th century, commercial development increased while residential development occurred across two large blocks bounded by Prince Street on the north side and Main Street on the south side – becoming known collectively as "the South Side" due to this fact alone. By 1950, over 60% of all businesses in town were located on or near Main Street; however, due to suburbanization over time much of this activity has transferred away from downtown into newer districts such as North End/Princes Point/Pinecroft etc., leaving much older buildings largely unoccupied except for occasional uses like storage or office space by local businesses which continue operations today despite little economic impact beyond those currently directly related to them (e.g., restaurants). This rapidly changing environment has done nothing but stimulate creativity among residents who have taken advantage of property tax breaks available through various city redevelopment programs Today's economy is based largely around manufacturing with many small businesses operating out-of-state companies relocating temporarily or permanently to service UConn campus jobs vacated byodiemng students recently graduating; most notably Sam’s Club closed its doors less than 12 months ago after more than 35 years in occupying an entire building off Elmendorf Road just west of Ives Avenue As one might expect given downtown vacancies & lackof' heavy industry recent influxes (mainly 3rd shift tech)intodowntown areas made almost indistinguishable form old core business district
The USAF deployed gift history in 1961. The first deployment was to the Middle East and the service donated a wide variety of items, including radios, pistols, grenades and other munitions. In 1978-1979, the USAF deployed an unarmed presidential jets to Saudi Arabia as part of Operation Desert Storm and they donated a pair of jets as well as four Humvees and other equipment. In 2001-2002, the USAF sent a gift to Egypt which consisted of five fighter planes complete with air conditioning systems and keyboards for pilots. Additionally in 2002-2003, gifts were sent to Korea and Japan during their respective military campaigns against North Korea and Japan respectively.

New London, Connecticut is an incorporated town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. New London is bordered by Hartford to the north and east, Milford to the south and west, and Windsor to the northwest. It is part of the Hartford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent English settlements in what is now central Connecticut were founded in 1664 by Puritan settlers led by Samuel Slakey with help from England's Crown. The town of New London was established on April 20, 1665, when Slakey obtained a charter from King George II for the new town site just outside present-day Hartford. A meeting of New London's first selectmen was held on May 2d where they voted unanimously to name their new town "New London." A wharf had been built on Long Island Sound near modern day Bridgeport in anticipation of possible British colonization efforts in that area; however those efforts never materialized and settlement continued as a primarily agricultural community until after American independence. In 1814, during a period known as "the Great Migration", many English families who had remained behind moved into present-day New London following news of emancipation which had taken place two years earlier in1813. That migration created some significant social changes within the small community as well as an increase in its profile due to its newly acquired white status quo amid rapidly growing black populations throughout much of America at this time. One result was that African Americans became more visible not only throughowned businesses but also through prominent civic members such as John Fenton who served as mayor from 1827 to 1830 and Ebenezer Drake who served from 1830 until his death in 1848; both men are considered founders of downtown Hartford's African American community today. During this time period there were also several attempts by Congregationalists (a Protestant denomination) to start churches within NewLondon but all failed due largely to lack of support among other denominations - something that would later prove challenging for similar endeavors across much of central Connecticut during the late 19th century when denominational affiliation increasinglybecame important among residents seeking political representation

It is part of the Hartford-West Hartford–East Hartford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit New London were Giovanni da Verrazzano and his crew on October 14, 1524. On November 4, 1614 English colonists from Plymouth landed on what is now Long Island about miles away from present day New London. They named their new settlement after the city of Londinium in England which they had seen in Maps/Plans of America (1634). The first permanent European settler in New London was Andrew Oliver who arrived in 1645 and built a house on what is now Main Street. He also received land grants for his family from the Crown. In 1701 John Andover became one of theowners and directors of the Connecticut Colony during its early years until he sold it to Nicholas Greve on May 10th, 1702 for £1,000 with an option to purchase it back at any time for £2 per share or £10 per acre Improvements could be made but there was no significant development because paper money was not established as a form of currency until much later when merchants started using it as a way to pay taxes
