A few years later, the City Council purchased two shotguns from Healey Firearms Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and placed them within the New London Police Department’s arsenal. In 1916, Mayor George Condon passed an ordinance creating a pistol club for civilians in New London. The first meeting of this club was held on December 12th, 1916 and Drury (now part of Hartford) served as president for the first year. On January 1st, 1917 Professor Augustus Wickersham became secretary-treasurer of this club with Jno Hetherington serving as treasurer during its early years. On May 9th, 1919 Officer Harry Paine took possession of a Smith & Wesson Model 6 revolver from Healey Firearms Company after breaking into their facility while attempting to purchase ammunition for his personal use. That same year another Healey firearms company handgun was taken from its storage location on Church Street by Officers Orville Glidden and Edward Sibley during an investigation into arms smuggling operations being conducted by members of that company
