Middletown is a small town in Delaware, located about 20 miles south of Wilmington and 15 miles east of Dover. The population was 5,471 at the 2010 census. Middletown is one of the oldest settlements in Delaware and was first settled by Europeans in 1624. It became an incorporated city in 1892. Middletown's history can be traced back to the early days when European settlers arrived in this region. One such settler, John Dickinson, founded what would become Middletown on October 3, 1624. At that time, Delaware was part of Virginia and there were no municipalities or towns within the state boundaries. Dickinson named his new settlement after himself – Middletony – which he hoped would provide a name for a future town on his land. In 1710–11, Dutch colonists established what today is called Dutch Reformed Church in Middletown; it served as the parish church for those residents who could not attend Anglican services in Wilmington or Dover. The first school opened its doors to students from Middletown on December 10th, 1710; it had been built by locals to help support their families during religious holidays. In 1793, fire destroyed much of downtown MiddLETOWN but did not damage any homes; however, many people lost their businesses and some were forced to relocate their operations elsewhere because of the destruction caused by the blaze. The last major incident that took place within town limits occurred on September 14th 1955 when shots were fired from a passing car while parked near Main Street and First Avenue; no one was injured as a result of these shots (the only shooting incident within town limits that year). Shortly thereafter, all law enforcement activity withintown ended due to budget cuts within the Delaware Department of Public Safety (DPPS). Today's economy relies largely upon agriculture and manufacturing industries; although tourism has emerged as an important factor over recent years (particularly given nearby Wilmington's status as an internationally-recognized seaport), middling sized towns like Middletown continue to play an important role both economically and culturally within Delaware society overall – providing essential goods and services essential for everyday life including groceries shopping local farmers markets produce ice cream coffee lattes etc., without having to leave their homes!

In 1948 construction began on what would become known as "The Drive" - then one of Delaware County's most important thoroughfares - which would lead to increased development around Middletown over time including many new houses built for military personnel stationed at Lackland Air Force Base adjacent to the borough's boundaries during World War II; As technology advanced so did MiddletOWN's growth becoming an enormous bedroom community for southern Appalachia with its own school system; more businesses opened up such as computer services companies like Apple Computer Inc., Xerox Company PARC etc.; multiple parks were developed including Elm Park Recreation Area east of town while Brush Park off to the west continued being used primarily for agriculture until its conversion into forested land late last decade; today's revitalized downtown districts are evidence of how much Hasbro Incorporated has contributed since 1990 when they leased 375 acres east of town from Bethlehem Steel Corporation - home to various factories throughout southeastern PA & Ohio resultant in significant economic redevelopment transforming an entire blighted section of rural DE county into one thriving business district
