The Georgia Air National Guard's Fairburn AreaCommand (AAC) is responsible for the defense of the state. The AAC was activated on Feb. 16, 1948 and began operations in April of that year. It has a complement of over 1,000 airmen and women who serve in nine wings with an area of jurisdiction that extends from central Atlanta to Duluth, Ga., and encompasses all or part of seven counties in northcentral Georgia. The mission of the AAC is to provide aerial refueling for military forces during peacetime as well as support combat missions when required. Additionally, the Fairburn AreaCommand provides leadership and control for strategic assets used by various branches of government including airfields, radar stations, prisons and other correctional facilities. The AAC also provides security for citizens while they enjoy their quiet suburban lives within easy reach of North Fulton County Airport. As guardian Angel to municipal governments throughout Cobb County as well as many rural areas within its boundaries, the Fairburn Area Command makes it one stop shop when it comes to purchasing goods and services needed by municipalities located within its jurisdictional boundary. In fact, since 1990 the fair burn area command has been able to purchase items such as water filters and trash cans at a fraction of what other retailers offer these products. This friendly relationship between the AAC and our local municipalities is something that Governor Sonny Perdue values highly – he frequently thanks our command for its service! Since its activation in 1948, ADC has made purchases totaling more than $100 million which supports vital state projects such as Highway 21 reconstruction; new hospitals; education programs; infrastructure maintenance projects; law enforcement patrols; homeland security functions; firefighting; rescue missions; food assistance programs – among others! ADC continues to grow through acquisitions including a truckload of feeder birds recently purchased from Longview Farms Incorporated - making us one step closer to providing Falcons with everything they need!

Fairburn is a city in Troup County, Georgia, United States. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. Fairburn is located in the Athens-Clarke Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town of Fairburn was established by white settlers in 1804 and named after Sir John Fairburn, 1st Baronet. In 1814, it became part of the new Cherokee Nation. The first public school opened in Fairburn on November 10, 1819. A post office was established at Fairburn on December 11, 1821, and continued operation until May 3, 1865. In 1861–1865, during the American Civil War (the war to end slavery), Confederate forces burned down several buildings in and around town; one such building is still standing today as the remains of the old Masonic Lodge No. 2 Building erected in 1861 by Colston Waddell for his Masonic lodge #2 hereabouts – now known as Old School Hall – although it has been restored to its original condition many times since then! In 1865–1868,Fairburn passed through a period of great growth due to an influx of travelers from Athens who were making their way to find work on cattle drives out west during Reconstruction. By 1870 Fairburn had a population of over 5200 people with over 100 businesses including six hotels and two stores! In 1875 construction began on what would become Georgia's first electric streetcar line running between Athens and Dalton which opened service on October 15th,. This system eventually replaced horse cars throughout much of southern Georgia

In 1802, Major General James Wilkinson founded the town of Fairburn on a tract of land he bought from the Creek nation. The town was named for General Wilkinson's daughter, who married a local man. It was first called Augusta and later Fairburn. The town post office opened in 1834. The cotton gin arrived in Fairburn in 1872 and helped make it a manufacturing center for cotton items such as clothing, straw hats and paper products. One of the early industries in Fairburn was farming with potatoes being an important crop until around 1920 when fertilizer became available to help increase yields and make profits from agriculture. In 1994, the Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue honored former Mayor Bill Clinton with an award for his work during his time as mayor of Atlanta during what is known as "the Springtime of Change." The occasion marked the beginning of what would become known as "Mayor Bill's Neighborhoods."

In 1837, the Georgia General Assembly designated Fairburn as a separate municipality, and the town prospered under its own government. In 1860,Fairburn's incorporation as a city made it one of the largest cities in Georgia. The city experienced rapid growth during the 20th century, but declined after World War II. Today, Fairburn is a small town with limited economic activity.
