In Fairburn, GA, the military has a long and proud history. The first units of the Georgia Infantry were mustered into service in 1795. The state's first regiment of cavalry was raised in 1802 and the 1st Regiment of Dragoons was organized in 1825. In 1861, Confederate forces invaded Georgia and on July 4th, Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House. As a result of this event, over 620 men from Fairburn lost their lives to Confederate casualties or capture. The modern-day Department of Defense deployed gift history to Fairburn on November 12th, 2001 as part of the War Trophy program. This event was in commemoration of all those who have died or been injured during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom - both operations conducted with our nation's bravest and most dedicated soldiers! The Fairburn Army Garrison was chartered on December 13, 1813 and activated on January 1, 1814. The unit served in the War of 1812 and in the Creek War. In 1830, the regiment moved to Springfield Armory, Pennsylvania as part of a Corps of Cadets. They were mustered out on November 14, 1830. The regiment again moved to Philadelphia in 1841 and then to Corinth, Mississippi where they garrisoned for two years before moving back to Philadelphia in1845. From October 1861 until July 1865 the FairburnArmy Garrison served under Confederate General Robert E. Lee as an artillery battery protecting his army’s supply line from Federal forces at Appomattox Court House Virginia. They disbanded after the war on July 6th 1865 at their home town of Fairburn Georgia
Fairburn is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 5,752 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County. The city is named for James Fairburn, who purchased the land in 1819. The first Europeans to visit Fairburn were French traders and missionaries in 1795. The town site was selected by General James Halleck as his capital during the American Revolution because it lay within Confederate lines between North Georgia and South Georgia. After the war ended, Halleck returned to Savannah as military governor of Georgia and he set up his headquarters here. In 1801, he sold part of what became Fairburn to Colonel John Pearce for $2,000 cash. Pearce built a small cabin on the site and called it "Georgia Post". He served as postmaster here from 1802 until his death in 1806. In 1821, James Fairburn purchased 2 square miles (3 square kilometers) of land southwest of downtown Atlanta for $10 per acre ($4 million at current prices). This land would become known as Fairburn Heights after him and his family moved there from their original home on Cumberland Road in north Atlanta in 1830-31. By 1840, more than one-third of all cotton grown in Atlanta was located within 3 miles (5 km) of downtown; production declined thereafter due to lack of available acreage south of I-285/I-75/US 20/GA 10 junction. During Reconstruction following the Civil War, many Southern white men chose to move away from new industrial cities such asAtlanta or Birmingham because they felt these places showed disrespect for their former Confederacy by accepting black people as equals while they continued to discriminate against whites living inside their jurisdictions. Many African Americans also left these cities due to political instability following Reconstruction which saw many races allied with different forces opposed to each other; this included African Americans who had remained behind in those southern cities during times when those areas were under Union control or during Reconstruction when freedmen could choose not return home again under terms offered by President Andrew Johnson – which would have allowed them full citizenship rights once Freedmen’s Bureau authority expired without immediate action being taken by federal officials confiscating any property owned by slaves outside Confederate lines immediately upon its expiration Many businesses that relocated out west during this time period were originally founded by white businessmen who moved westward because they objected to laws passed during Reconstruction that limited business opportunities for blacks within states such as Alabama or Mississippi while allowing white businessmen unrestricted access throughout most northern states including Illinois and Iowa where they controlled large majorities of local governments Some businesses such as Sears Roebuck & Co., JBL Audio Company (later renamed Beats Electronics), Coca Cola Refreshments Inc., Piggly Wiggly Foods Inc., Kroger Corporation (now Kroger Super Markets), AT&T Advanced Technologies Inc., PepsiCo Great Lakes Holdings LLC.), Samsung Heavy Industries America LLC.) established themselves outside traditional urban areas among prosperous farmers and entrepreneurs who believed that new technologies could change how society operated if brought into focusoutside traditional male dominated business institutions

Fairburn, Georgia was founded in 1802 by John Fairburn and his family. The town has a rich history that is full of mystery, racism, and slavery. The area now known as Fairburn was originally part of the Cherokee Nation until it was forced to cede its land to the United States in1828. After being ceded, the Cherokees were forced to move out of their original territory and live in Indian Territory. In 1836, Fairburn became a part of Alabama after the state was created from parts of three other southeastern states: Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee. The following year,Fairburn became a part of Georgia when that state was created from parts of the three other southeastern states: Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee. The early years of Fairburn were difficult for both the townspeople and their farmers. This situation changed when John Fairoh purchased 7 acres of land near what is now downtown Fairburn in 1802. Fairoh built a cabin and named his property "Fairoh's Ferry". From this location he could see both riverboats moored on the Chattahoochee River upstream and downstream from his property as well as trade with Native Americans living along the riverbanks. This allowed him to become one of the most influential men in Fairburn during its early days. In 1806 John Fairoh married Martha Webb who also owned some land in what is now downtown Fairburn. The marriage produced four children: James (baptized James Lowndes), Martha Jane (baptized Marianna Alston), Charles (born December 25th, 1808), and Sarah Ann (born March 12th, 1810). It should be noted that all four children had African American heritage which added another layer to an already complex relationship between white people and black people in rural areas at this time. John Fairoh would continue to play an important role in fair burn through his business dealings as well as through political activism thereafter into adulthood.. For example; he served two terms as Mayor of Atlanta before dying suddenly at age 53 while serving on Atlanta's City Council in 1840s revivalist movement against slavery
The city of Fairburn, Georgia was founded on October 12, 1825 by a group of farmers and soldiers from Tennessee. The following year, the town was named in honor of General Joseph Easley, who had fought in the Mexican-American War. In 1830, the town's first school opened and instruction began in English and Spanish. By 1840, Fairburn had a population of around 150 people. In 1851, Fairburn became an independent village and remained so until 1906 when it became part of the municipality of Athens.
