It was an eventful year for Cochran; he also won $25,000 playing blackjack at a casino in Atlantic City. The win gave him some extra money to spend and helped him set his sights on becoming a professional boxer.
Fairburn is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 5,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first known permanent settler inFairburn was James Goodyear, who arrived in 1802 as a surveyor for theoddy Choctaw Nation. In 1803 he and his wife were joined by their son John, who had also come overland from Tennessee. The Goodyears began to grow cotton and other crops until they decided to move in 1835 to what is now Fairburn Township after purchasing of land from brothers Elijah and John Hill. They named their new community "Fulton" after General Thomas Ewing's forces had destroyed the Creek Nation settlement of Milledgeville on February 17, 1835. Just prior to his death on October 16, 1850, Jepson Goodyear bequeathed $100 to each resident of Fulton Township for use as a fund for education within that community or any other township where citizens may choose to erect high school buildings. In 1865 local physician Drs Samuel Hinton and James Troup founded Chattahoochee Normal School (later Georgia State University) on land donated by Judge Robert Broughton adjacent to present-day Midtown Park; Hinton served as first president and Dr Troup later served as second president. One reason why Chattahoochee Normal School became one of the most successful schools in Georgia was its close relationship with local churches which helped contribute financially When Atlanta became an incorporated city on April 15th 1898 it absorbed much of Fulton County including Fairburn Township including all but two miles of current Midtown Park Avenue between Peachtree Road westward along Ponce de Leon Boulevard eastward before terminating at Dunwoody Road northward). On January 1st 1899 streetcar service began between downtownAtlanta and Midtown Park Avenue with stops at Constitution Hall (now Phillips Arena), Governor's Mansion (now Cherokee Elementary School), Bank Building (now First Interstate Tower), Post Office Building (now Home Depot Center), Masonic Temple (now Southern Baptist Convention building), Coca Cola Company building located southwest cornerof Dunwoody Rd & McDonough Ave., Baptist Church - nowMethodist Episcopal church across #4 lane Dunwoody Rd from intersection with Macon Ave., former fire station now Home Depot Center - Prior stop along midtown park avenue @ Peachtree Rd W home depot center

Fairburn is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,622 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Courthouse and Jail are both located in Fairburn. The town was formed in 1855 by settlers from North Carolina and Virginia. It became a railroad town in 1881 and was named for General James Fairburn, who fought against Native Americans during the Seminole Wars. In 1905, Fairburn had a post office as well as two hotels and three stores. The first school in Fairburn opened in 1853. A store building and one hotel were built on Railroad Street between 1895-96 by Wm Hogg & Bros., developers of Midtown Atlanta. The second school opened in 1906 on Depot Road near Academy Drive with classes starting September 6th that year according to an article from the "Atlanta Constitution" In 1908 the trustees of Evansville Normal School voted to merge with nearby Centennial High School so that all students living within five miles of Centennial would be able to attend one school instead of having to go to different schools throughout their neighborhoods. This move increased enrollment at Evansville Normal School which led to the name change from Centennial High School to Fairburn Central High School effective fall semester 1908 In 1924, when Peach Bowl Stadium was dedicated following construction of Candler Park across Interstate 285 north of downtown Atlanta, Fairburn citizens contributed $1,500 towards its construction In 1957 there were plans for a shopping center off I-285 south of I-75 called "Fulton Mall." However this never came about because it clashed with plans for Peachtree Center next door
The area now known as Fairburn was once part of the Cherokee Nation. The first white settlers arrived in what is now Fairburn in 1814, and by 1830, the town had grown to a population of around 100. By 1835, however, the Cherokees had been forced out of their traditional territory by an American military campaign known as the Trail of Tears, and Fairburn quickly grew into a small town without any industry or major commercial interests. In 1839, after several years of consideration, the Georgia General Assembly passed a bill creating the county of Fulton in response to growing residential demand for land within its borders. The new county was named in honor of General James McAllisterFairburn's most famous resident and one of history's most influential figures.
