The Shrine of St. Marys is a beautiful, secluded Catholic church in the town of St. Marys, Georgia. It was built in 1881 and dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The parish has a population of around 1,500 people and it is one of the most active Catholic churches in the state. The parish has two main buildings: the original church, which is on Church Street, and the rectory on York Road. The church itself is a huge, Gothic structure with high ceilings and an elaborate gables. It was designed by Atlanta architect John Bulfinch and built at a cost of $1 million dollars. Inside, there are several large chapels including one for women that was added in 1925 and another for men that was added in 1945. There are also several smaller chapels scattered throughout the building. The choir room is home to both a Parish Priest (the Reverend Monsignor Robert Jansen) and his assistant priests (the Fathers Father John Fitzgerald and Father Michael Shea). There are also numerous other rooms used for services such as confession, contraception information center, library/calendar office etc.. There are three schools within walking distance of the shrine: St Vincent de Paul School on Church Street; Our Lady Of Lourdes School on York Road; and Sacred Heart School on McIntosh Boulevard just outside town limits near Hearst AFB Air Force Base

The history of St. Marys, Georgia begins with the arrival of the English in 1725. The English were looking for a location to build a new capital after their victory in the Seven Years War and they decided on Savannah because of its strategic location and fertile soil. When they arrived, they found an empty village called Westover which had been abandoned by its previous inhabitants because of the Indian raids. The English built a small fort at Westover and named it Fort Augusta after King George II of England. They also founded a church there which was dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1729. In 1738, the French arrived in Georgia and began trading with Native Americans. They discovered that the Cherokee people had valuable land near Savannah and decided to take it over. The French made sure that the Cherokee people were killed or enslaved so that they could not resist them too much. In 1741, General James Oglethorpe came to Georgia and discovered that there was land available for purchase at Savannah if he could find someone who would establish a town there. He negotiated with the French traders who agreed to set up shop at what is now Stonewall Jackson Boulevard in downtown Savannah. Oglethorpe renamed this place Saint-John-in-the-Pines after his patron saint, John Baptist. Oglethorpe soon realized that he needed more settlers so he started looking for ways to bring over more British soldiers as part of his campaign against Spanish domination in Florida since many British officers wanted to become colonists in America instead of returning home once their enlistments expired or when their terms were up. He finally found enough men from England to start building homes on February 14, 1742 at what is now Easton Avenue in downtown Savannah under orders from Governor Thomas Macdonough III of Massachusetts Bay Colony (New England). This was one of many early settlements throughout North America during this time period such as Halifax, Nova Scotia; Jamestown, Virginia; Boston Manor, New York; Waco Texas; San Antonio Texas; Montreal Canada; and Quebec City Canada among others! During these early years, much was done without wheels or technology like plumbing or heating until later on when those activities became common tools used by settlers across North America including Georgians! By 1745, almost allofGeorgiahad been explored except for what is now Alabama where certain claims still lingered about lands eastward including Strawn County! With transportation becoming easier through horseback riding through open areas such as Appaloosa County then carts crossed rivers like Chattahoochee River then down mountain ranges like Rocky Mountains then along Coastal Plain before reaching inland areas like present day Georgia! This process led eventuallyto settlement within present day Cobb County including parts of Roswell Park Cemetery today!
In 1821, St. Marys was founded as a small Village by the Reverend John Cook and his wife, Anne. In 1840, it became an incorporated town when the Georgia General Assembly approved its incorporation. The population of St. Marys swelled in the late 19th century with many residents moving from nearby Macon to establish businesses and farmland in the new community. The first post office was established in 1851, and the first school opened in 1857. The town experienced growth during the early 20th century with several businesses opening up including a grocery store and a meat market. During World War II, St.Marys played an important role as a munitions manufacturing center providing essential equipment for the war effort. After the war, many residents moved away to continue their farming or business careers but some remain active within the community today including Mayor Rick Shuler and Superintendent Carolyn Hickey
