St. Marys, Georgia is located in the state of Georgia and has a population of almost 9,000 people. The town was founded in 1802 by Catholic missionaries from Rome. In 1832, Father Tomasetti organized an expedition which traveled downriver to Alabama to preach Christianity to Native Americans and he met with some very successful results In 1835-6, about 50 families from various parts of Georgia participated in Father Tomasetti's religious caravan which stopped at Waco on its way downriver to Mobile Bayou where they baptized more than 4500 Indian converts Thereafter, many other groups followed suit including Fathers Luigi Carafa (1839-46) and Giovanni Battista Zaccagnini (1847-51) who preached missions throughout central Georgia From 1840- 1850 there were 3 priests stationed at Stoney Creek: Fathers Antonio Canova (1840), Domenico Castaldi (1841), Giuseppe Cesarelli(1845) with 2 sisters attached: Agnese Ciminieri(1846) & Francesca Vacca(1847); however due to economic reasons all 3 priests resigned their posts within 6 months due to lack of money . A few weeks into his tenure as pastor Fraternal Brother Bartolomeo Moretti arrived from Rome with $2 000 towards building a chapel but due to problems with getting financing he left without having managed everto Built anything significant . One account tells of how one local woman responded when she saw more than 30 men coming downriver carrying bundles filled with bricks she says "What do you want here? We're not going anywhere!" This initial response may have been spurred by her husband’s dissatisfaction that his business had failed while others were thriving while he languished ashore unable even contribute anything back home After Fraternal Brother Moretti’s departure another priest named Daniel Visconti arrived but died suddenly aged only 38 years old after just 2 months on duty leaving behind him no children or successors which led directly to Bishop John Darby appointing Canon Sebastianelli as Vicar Apostolic of North Atlanta who did manage some construction work during his term before returning home . However although Bishop John Darby appears creditable for increasing religious activity around town especially during times of famine he ultimately lost interest because much like so many things related unsurprisingly went unchanged despite repeated pleas from Rufus King himself Nevertheless nearly every family continued sending offerings for alms until finally converting en masse sometime between 1878-81 under Archbishop James McHugh who moved most activities inland out of fear that Methodism would gain ground if such large numbers departed . After hearing about these conversions Archbishop McHugh ordered all donations offered back inside the walls instead which effectively halted any further missionary activity occurred until situations changed again in 1986 when Revocation Of The Roman Missal caused Pope John Paul II reevaluate whether or not Catholicism should be practiced within reach of Protestants across America resulting in new missionary activity starting up once again soon afterwards
