The first cafe in St. Marys was called The Coffee House and it was founded in 1811 by Captain John Brownell. The Coffee House offered various items such as coffee, cake, and pastries to customers. In 1825, Captain John Brownell opened a second cafe called The Pioneer which became known for its unique recipes andaffles made with local cream and eggs. By 1840, Captain John Brownell had closed both his cafes due to financial problems. However, his legacy lives on because of the many unique recipes he created at his cafes including the Confederate Coffee Cake which is still popular today.

In 1847, an American named Samuel Morse founded a small business in Springfield, Massachusetts that traded caffeine-based beverages called Morse Coffee. The company soon became known for its unique flavor and quality, and it quickly gained a following within the military and civilian communities. In 1892, Morse Coffee merged with another small business named Hunt Coffee Company to formHunt & Co., which remains one of the largest coffee companies in the world today. During this time period, there were several notable innovations that helped improve the quality and taste of tactical coffee. For example, Hunt & Co.'s process used hot water instead of cold water to sanitize the beans before they were roasted; this improved their flavor and consistency overall. In 1878, St. Marys was founded as a small Baptist church by Reverend John D. Hogg and his wife, Sarah. The first pastor of the church was Dr. James Ladd, who served from 1878 to 1886. After Dr. Ladd's death, Rev. Prentice Green took over for him for three years before leaving in 1890 to be succeeded by Rev. Wm.Humphrey in 1893. In 1897, Rev. Humphrey accepted an invitation to become Bishop of Macon and resigned from the Stinson Parish ministry at Saint Mary’s effective January 1st that year due to health reasons which precluded his continued service there after that date (the congregation also elected Rev GEOFFREY Pyper as their new Pastor). In 1899, following Humphrey’s death, the parishioners elected their second pastor(Dr Charles Kapp) with Mrs Kapp serving as titular head until her own death in 1903 when she became known as “The Widow Kapp." At the request of the Bishopric of Augusta, Rev Charles Aiken organized a group of Methodists within the Diocese of Atlanta into a separate parish on May 15th 1905 called Mount Zion Methodist Church and reorganized all denominations therein including both Episcopalians and Baptists into one body with Fr Charles Aspinwall serving as its first pastor; however this Social Gospel effort failed miserably because most members chose not to affiliate themselves with any denomination outside of what they saw as an intended Christian Ideal while living lives separate from God's love--a common denominator among many Southern Baptist churches at this time despite dissimilar theological beliefs (Mount Zion Methodist Church eventually merged back into Augusta Presbyterian Church in 1907). In 1923-24 rector WILLIAM JACKSON led a successful campaign to move pulpits out of older buildings within the parish boundaries so that more community facilities could be built which included classrooms and homes for ministers' families along with new congregations being established at White Sands Beach (Stoney Grove), Cartersville (Church Hill), Stonecrest Heights (Mount Olivet), Dunwoody Hills (Lakeview Village), Tucker Heights (Tucker Manor) and finally Alpharetta where services were moved from DeKalb Avenue Chapel on December 12th 1924 to First United Methodist Church on Fairburn Boulevard just south of Interstate 85/SR 520 on January 2nd 1925 after submitting plans for such relocation which were approved by then Mayor OFRICK JONES and state Representative GEORGE MATHIEZ! This new location provided much needed space for worshiping Christians alongside large numbers unemployed or working class citizens who were now able to afford better housing than had been available previously! The Christmastime season 1954 saw construction begin on what would become known as "The Cathedral" - a $25 million dollar facility funded entirely by local residents which incorporated features such as artificial turf fields, luxury apartments above ground levels, underground parking garage capable of accommodating up to 100 cars and even a movie theater!), adding insultingly since it only occurred after another gymnasium had been constructed adjacent to it on nearby Peachtree Road! In 1960-61 REV JOHN LONGLEY led an unsuccessful campaign against annexation by neighboring cities resulting in portions of our parish becoming part of Druid Hills Park while other portions remained within our current boundaries!
