They married on November 17, 1846 at Fort Hall near present day Boise City, Idaho. The couple moved to Blackfoot soon thereafter and established a business trading goods from Asia and Europe along the Snake River Valley. Over time, they added additional businesses including cattle ranching operations and flour milling ventures in nearby Cut Bank County. In addition to their business interests, John Custer also enjoyed spending time outdoors playing poker or cards or hunting big game such as grizzly bears or wolves on his Mormon missions throughout western North America over several decades beginning around 1855-60 while living at Promontory Point west of Boise City

The Town of Blacksburg annexed most of what is now Blackfoot in 1901 following a vote by residents over objections from White House officials who wanted all land within sight of Washington D.C.. blacksburg's incorporation created much animosity among local whites until they eventually assimilated into society while continuing to practice traditional blackfeet ways including educationally leading families through various ceremonies such as religious dancing before commencement exercises at high schools attended by students from around central ID .
