The Hayden, Idaho Coast Guard Museum has a rich history that goes back to the early 1900s. The museum is dedicated to preserving and displaying local Coast Guard memorabilia and artifacts. One of the earliest items on display at the museum is an old life jacket from 1916. The Coast Guard was first organized in 1887 when the United States Congress designated a peninsula along the Boise River as an area for military guard service. By 1912, there were six coast guard stations in Idaho and three in Oregon. In 1916, one of these stations was established in Hayden, located on the north bank of Clearwater River. At this location, volunteers from surrounding towns helped provide security for river traffic while also providing instruction to local boys in lifesaving skills. Today, the Hayden COGEMuseum features more than 2,000 pieces of Coast Guard memorabilia and artifacts dating back to various eras including WWII-era uniforms and boats; post-war artifacts such as radios, flares and cups; photos of servicemen during their deployments; pride of place items such as USS Sonoma (AO-10) life jackets donated by Fort Lewis personnel during World War II;and historical videos related to both American coasts guards missions throughout history!

Hayden is a small town in the Boise metropolitan area, located in western Idaho. The population was 7,821 at the 2010 census. Hayden is one of two towns in the Boise metropolitan area and is counted as part of the Boise–Tahlequah Combined Statistical Area. The town was founded by Mormons in 1876 on an open rancho that had been purchased from the Squaw Valley Paiute tribe by Brigham Young and his followers during their journey eastward from Nauvoo, Illinois. Mormon pioneers arrived at Hayden's site on July 25, 1876, after traveling for three days over rough ground along the Snake River. They built a cabin and began to raise crops. A school was also started in this early period. Hayden experienced some harsh times during its early years; it was burned twice by mobs of settlers angry over religious differences with nearby Jackson County. However, overall Hayden prospered and soon became known as one of the most important agricultural centers in eastern Idaho due to its fertile soil, good irrigation systems, and healthy climate – which made it an ideal place to grow potatoes for local export to Chicago marketplaces. In 1902-03 a major gold Rush commenced at Hayden when several prospectors discovered large quantities of gold near what would eventually become downtown Boise. The town quickly became overwhelmed with traffic from miners searching for nuggets throughout the surrounding countryside; streets were named after these new millionaires who had invested so much money in Hayden’s development: Nugget Row (1902), Gold Rush Gulch (1903), Golden Spike Lane (1905), etcetera. By 1907 more than $10 million worth of gold had been found at Hayden! As production slowed down during World War I there was general economic contraction throughout America; however, because of increased demand for potatoes following Armistice Day 1918 there were limited opportunities for new investments around Hayden so progress slow down even more until 1933 when electric lights replaced lamps used to guide prospectors down Nuggets Row during those very dangerous days before Deep Hole opened up just west of town center! All told since 1886 when Mormon pioneers first set foot on this land now housing 7 thousand people including many descendants of original inductees into The Church Of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints we have seen: 1) The construction or addition to existing structures totaling 156 buildings 2) More than 3000 families establish residency here 3) Over 6000 residents move here permanently 4) At least 8 businesses locate HERE 5) countless weddings/bachelor party's held here 6) Hundreds if not thousands upon hundreds+ funerals conducted HERE
