From the early days of rifle hunting and target shooting to today’s firearms enthusiasts, there have been countless people who have contributed their time and expertise to make Rexsburg one of the most gun-friendly communities in America. One of the earliest shooters in Rexburg was George Hargrave. Born in 1879, George was a man who knew his way around a firearm. He would take his dog for walks and train him to shoot at distances up to 150 yards using whatever he could find as targets. When George wasn’t training his dog, he would be out taking aim at game from his porch or practicing with his pistols at the local range. In 1907, John Griggs arrived in Rexburg from Oregon. John had started out as an oil worker and had traveled extensively throughout western North America before settling down in Idaho. He started out playing racquetball on Saturday nights with friends and eventually turned his attention to firearms. John quickly became known as “The Rifleman” due to his skills with rifles both long distance (up to 500 yards) and close range (up to 25 yards). John also played an important role in helping start the local ammunition store within walking distance of where we now stand on Main Street. This store was instrumental inthe development of modern handgun ammo availability withinRexburgand across much of southern Idaho! In 1912, Jens Pedersen came into town from Scandinavia and opened up what would become one of the most successful businesses ever founded withinRexburg: The Petersen Bros Gun Shop! Rexburg is a small town in Idaho, United States. The population was 1,023 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pocatello–based metropolitan area. Rexburg is located on the Boise River, east of Boise and north of Council Bluffs. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Rexburg were fur traders who called it "Reno" because they thought it would be a good place to store their goods. In 1847, George Ayer founded Ayer's Ranch here and began selling cattle and hay to settlers on the Snake River Plain south of today's Rexburg. In 1861, Jens Jensen established the first post office in what is now Rexburg when he moved from his home near present-day Council Bluffs. The post office was named for General John Custer who had been killed in action at Little Big Horn four years earlier. logging began in this area soon after Dutchman Hendrik Pauw became interested in the land about which he had heard rumor for years before coming across it while exploring during his western migration with his group of Native Americans in 1846-1847. He organized a wagon train that traveled through eastern Oregon and into California where he met James Kappner and others who told them about rich deposits of coal under water nearby at what became known as Coal Creek. When they arrived back in Holland they sold all but one wagonload of their cargo to Pauw for $1,000 cash which made him one of the richest men on American soil at that time! This same group also discovered gold near modern day Nampa when they stopped over en route from Portland via Soda Springs on July 10th, 1849! They names their discovery: "Napa Striped Gold Mine". As more people came looking for this valuable mineral resource there quickly developed an industry around mining operations such as milling flour from ore brought down by prospectors or processing gold coins found along streams or riversides – some still being mined today! A full description can not be included because this information has been reprinted elsewhere (see below). However, early newspapers do state that “coal” refers to both white man's charcoal briquettes burned for heating purposes (a necessity back then) as well as natural gas used by many residents/farmers heat their homes during cold months; furthermore there was little cloth available until much later due to invention by church ladies using horse power looms ..... thus creating quite an interesting mix!! One other early business venture undertaken by Jens Jensen customers happened when he offered bartering services including supplying new shoeshine blades needed for schools back then (now replaced with other types). The three main businesses in town are a bank, an auto dealership, and a grain elevator. Rexburg was founded by settlers in 1885 as a farming community on the banks of the Snake River. In 1912, it became an incorporated municipality with a population of about 100 people. In 1966, Rexburg joined what was then called the United States Military Academy at West Point as one of its six schools. The school closed in 1999 but reopened as Rexburg High School in 2006.
