Crest Hill, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 8,834 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Crest Hill is located on the eastern border of Cook County and its largest city is Chicago. The first Europeans to find Crest Hill were French traders who landed there on October 20, 1795 while exploring the Northwest Territory through what is now Michigan. They named their landing point "Crest Hill" after Mount Royal in Quebec. The town was platted in 1848 by General John Pemberton and his brother-in-law George Stephenson as a proprietary colony for African Americans led by James Kossuth. In 1851, when white people started arriving in large numbers, Kossuths moved out and the black community gradually dwindled until it virtually disappeared by 1960. In 1896, Crest Hill became home to one of the world's first interracial marriages when William McKinley married mayoress Anna Quigley at Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church (now First Congregational United Methodist Church). It has been reported that McKinley had originally wanted to marry Ethna Stephens but she declined because her father would not allow it due to his opposition to interracial marriage at that time. By marrying Quigley he avoided any possible legal action that could have been taken against him should he have married Stephens later on without her consent or knowledge about his plans
The National Guard has a rich history that can be traced back to the Revolutionary War. The first national guard units were raised in 1775 as part of the Continental Army. During and after the Revolution, many states began raising their own militias to supplement the army. In 1792, Congress created the National Guard as an organization made up of men from all over the United States willing to serve without pay. In 1802, President James K. Polk created a permanent military force by order of Congress called the Military Division of Texas under command of General Zachary Taylor. After Taylor’s death in 1849, control over the division passed to General Order No. 9 which named Major-General Edwin M. Stanton commander-in-chief of both divisions and charged him with administering justice within them as well as providing for their common defense “during any time hereafter forth existing or future” (Stanton). By 1860, there were more than 350 brigades and regiments present in various states across America under command of lieutenant governors or other high ranking government officials (Krieg). With The Civil War starting in 1861, tensions between Confederate forces and Union troops escalated rapidly into what is known as The Great North/South War (Gonzalez). On July 21st, 1861, Abraham Lincoln issued an Executive Order establishing martial law in Illinois while also authorizing state militia units to participate in federal operations should they so choose (Levin). This order led to series of mass arrests and killings throughout Illinois by Confederate soldiers seeking revenge against members ofthe federal government who had perpetrated such atrocities against them during The Civil War (Erickson et al.). One estimate puts casualty totals suffered by Union forces at around 50% compared to Confederate losses which stand at 95%. With more than 620 thousand people killed or wounded during The Great North/South War it is safe to say that national guard units played an important role in this conflict. After The Civil War ended on April 6th 1865, most military units were disbanded although some continued operation until 1903 when they were finally abolished completely by Act No 127 Of 09 November 1903 (National Guard Museum website). However, not all units disbanding immediately ceased operations; some proceeded slowly through absorption into other armies or First WorldWar formations before being completely phased out altogether. For example: 1) New York State's 4th Brigade Infantry Regiment became part of New York City's 90th Infantry Division upon its activation on October 25th 1917; 2) Iowa's 3rd Cavalry Regiment was reactivated on May 16th 1915 after years inactive since its deactivation following Worldwar I; 3) Massachusetts' 73rd Infantry Regiment was reactivated on September 22nd 1917 followingits decommissioning from WorldWar I; 4) Washington Territory's 1st Battalion Grant Rifles was activated on December 5th 1916 soon after its incorporation into Seattle’s 20th Infantry Divisionwuith instructions from then Commandant General John J Pershing (King); 5) California's 1068th Machine Gun Battalion was activated January 24ths 1912 shortlyafterbeing reorganized from two companies originally assigned theretoat Fort Ord; 6) Arkansas' 65TH Volunteer Infantry regiment became part of Arkansas Volunteers Militia Militia Force effective February 12 th 1912 when organized battalions replacing those destroyed dur ingWorldwar I hostilities; 7) Louisiana's 85TH Engineer battalion became available for service effective March 15 th 1911 following mobilization from former District Attache'd Edward Condon detachment stationed at Tulane University; 8) Maryland's 2241st Field Artillery battery became available for duty May 2 nd 1911 following mobilization from detachments serving active duty with artillery services overseas prior theretoonly); 9) New Mexico's 633rd Battery served briefly withFifteenth U S Army Corps until being reassignedto mesopotamia Campaign Expeditionary Force effective October 26 th 1914following Mexican Expeditionary Forces withdrawalfrom region)(Heiser). While these examples provide snapshotsof individual unit histories they do not illustrate how national guards have been used throughout history nor did they include incidents relatedto current US armed forces personnel deployments overseas!

Crest Hill, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,049 at the 2010 census. The name of the town is derived from its location on an hill overlooking Creston Lake and its surrounding countryside. The first residents of Crest Hill were farmers who settled there in the early 1800s. By 1868, Crest Hill had a post office and several stores. In 1872, when the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad came through Creston Township, local farmers decided to build a depot on their land to serve as a trade center for their community. The Depot Office was built in 1872 and served as the town's commercial center until it burned down in 1922. Despite the loss of its commercial center, Crest Hill continued to grow because of its agricultural production. Today, cresthillilians enjoy many recreational opportunities such as fishing, hiking, biking and golfing. In addition to these activities there are also several churches that provide religious services to the community during various times of year.
Crest Hill was founded in 1815 by Amasa Wright and his wife, Deborah. The town grew quickly after the opening of the Erie Canal and until 1832, when it was incorporated as a village. In 1847, Crest Hill became a full-fledged city and remained so for over fifty years. In 1932, the city merged with neighboring Burr Ridge to form one large municipality.
