Crestwood, Illinois is the birthplace of artisan coffee. The first coffee beans were roasted and ground in this small town in the early 1800s. Since then, Crestwood has been a breeding ground for great coffee lovers who appreciate quality beans andocused attention to detail. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf company was founded in Crestwood by two local residents, Harry and Jane Norris. In 1984, they opened their first store in Crestwood—the only one at that time. At that time, Harry and Jane were the only people roasting and grinding their own coffee. They continue to roast and grind coffee here today as well as distribute their beans throughout Illinois and Missouri. The Norrises are credited with developing the modern artisanal coffee experience. Their focus on using only premium grade beans ensures that every cup of their espresso is delicious, unique, and perfect for all kinds of occasions. Crestwood, Illinois is home to the first espresso shop in the area. The coffee was roasted and brewed by Luigi Gentile, who opened his shop in 1892. In 1928, Alfredo Ratti opened a small café called La Bottega that served Italian-American commuters from Crestwood. In 1957, Giancarlo Castaldo started making espresso at his restaurant Castaldo's on Madison Street in Crestwood. In 1978, Angelo Morrone opened his own business called Morone's Coffee Shop and Cafe. In 1984, Mario Batali started serving international cuisine at his restaurant Il Forno in Crestwood. In 1994, Joe's Coffee & Tea began operations in Crestwood with a roast house of their own. That same year saw the opening of Kenneth Rosenbloom's Kosher Bakery which made artisanal baked goods from scratch using only high-quality ingredients from around the world. It was also during this time that Mastroeni Bros.'uddenly closed its doors after more than 50 years of operation."
Crestwood is a small town in central Illinois, about 25 miles (40 km) northwest of Chicago. The population was 7,895 at the 2000 census. The first people to live here were the Potawatomi Tribe and their allies who moved from Indiana in 1814. Crestwood was platted by Dr. James Bicknell in 1837 as an agricultural village on the border of what are now Ford County and Cook County. It became part of the city of Chicago on April 4, 1908. Crestwood is a village in Sangamon County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,724 at the 2010 census. Crestwood is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settlers to Crestwood were Methodist missionaries who came in 1836 and established a small mission on the edge of town. The original name for Crestwood was "Fruitland". A post office called Fruitland was founded in 1837, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1839, an act of the General Assembly granted land to John Hargrave for a cotton gin and mill. The first mill started business in 1840 and continued operating until it closed in 1915. In 1847, Reverend James Wills organized a church at Crestwood which became known as First Presbyterian Church. In 1865, the present-day crest wood high school opened its doors after being founded by Reverend Wills and other leaders of his churchyard congregation. After years of hard work by many people including Mr. Pardee (a local farmer), the school became operational in 1889 with 11 students enrolled from kindergarten through 8th grade CBMS #1A541014
Crestwood was founded by Captain John P. Wilkinson in 1835 and became a post office in 1839. The town was renamed Crestwood-on-the-Lake in 1849, and it changed its name to Crestwood in 1895. In 1907 the town had a population of 1,500 and it merged with Mundelein to form the new city of Mundelein on May 15, 1907.
