She served as flagship for Operation Neptune Spear, which aimed to drive Iraqi forces from Kuwait during the Gulf War of 1991. Enterprise also played a pivotal role in Operation Desert Storm when she led an amphibious force against Iraq's military installation at Sadr City that summer. USS Indianapolis (CA-35) was lost on October 15th 1944 while operating off Okinawa Japan with Task Unit 136.2(L), 6th Fleet; while en route to provide cover for strikes against Japanese industry by Fleet Air Arm units flown from Iwo Jima

Auburn, Indiana is a small town in the extreme northwest corner of the U.S. state of Indiana that lies on the border of Lake Michigan and Chicago County. The population was 1,517 at the 2000 census. Auburn is one of five towns in LaPorte County. The Townsite of Auburn was patented by John White on December 10, 1824. The first settler was Isaac Pogue who arrived in 1827 with his family from Connecticut. In 1830, Lewis Fenton built a cabin near where the current courthouse stands and operated it as a fur trading post for several years until he sold it to James Kappenberger in 1836 which formed part of what would become La Porte County. In 1840, Captain David Funk set up a trade post at what is now known as Old Fort Dearborn on Mud Creek between present day Auburn and LaPorte City Limits after finding gold there during an expedition led by William Henshaw (1787-1860). This early settlement served as a staging area for transportation to and from Chicago because Albion College could not be located nearby within reasonable driving distance and access to other resources was limited due to forest land purchases required by Illinois State legislators when they createdLaPorte County in 1848-49 In 1850, Augustus Kelley acquired 640 acres (248 hectares) east of present day Auburn along Mud Creek which he named "Kelley's Prairie" after himself and his brother Elijah Kelley who had helped purchase the land from Augustus' father Jeremiah Kelley some time earlier In 1860, David Funk erected a log cabin marked "Funk's Fort" about two miles north of today's downtown LaPorte City Limits while still stationed at Old Fort Dearborn during campaigns against Pontiac Indians . After spending several months here he decided to move his camp downriver to better compete with available sites downstream including one now known as Goodrichsville where he erected another log store building later called "Funk's House". He also started selling cornmeal for flour making this early outpost potential commercial center for the village founded on northeast side of town about three miles west along Mud Creek in 1862 when Drury Wiley purchased adjacent farmstead extending southeast into Abram Township . As more settlers arrived they began referring to their new community as "Auburn", probably based upon its location near Chicago then just northwestern boundaries of LaPorte County . By 1880 most residents were farmers living around market gardens while others raised chickens or cattle but no major industry emerged until well into the 20th century when native aluminum production awoke interest among local entrepreneurs culminating with establishment in 1928 of A & W Aluminum Company Limited , one hundred percent owned by locals
