The Coast Guard has been in operation in Beech Grove, Indiana since 1921. The purpose of the Coast Guard was to provide maritime security and protection of our coastlines. The first Coast Guard Station in Beech Grove was established on October 21, 1921. At that time, the station consisted of a single boat and six men. In 1931, the first helicopter appeared on the scene in Beech Grove when an American Airlines Boeing 727 flown by Captain Edward "Buzz" Aldrin fulfilled a request from the local police department for air support during a routine traffic stop. A decade later, on May 18, 1941, the Coast Guard purchased its first set of helicopters for use as search and rescue helicopters. This purchase included two Bell OH-6M Pohamos which became operational on July 1st 1991. The helicopters were used to search for survivors after being lost at sea while searching for wreckage from World War II ships sunk off the coast of California. The following year on December 8th 1941, Commodore Ralph Fenton gave chase to Japanese submarines that had penetrated into United States waters off Long Beach Harbor resulting in three boats being destroyed and thirteen sailors being taken prisoner including one who would become known as "the Blue Boy". On December 17th 1941 Commodore Fenton attacked three Japanese submarines with his Bell P-47D Mustang aircraft providing strategic bombing cover while Commander John Hynes led five other planes against fourIJN Zeros over Catalina Island before they finally managed to sink them all with bombs (see photo). The Navy also contributed two Curtiss SB2C Helldivers to help with this mission but unfortunately one crashed soon afterwards….. In 1945 both Naval Air Squadrons transitioned from Curtiss SB2Cs to Lockheed P-38Ls however neither squadron achieved success during their tenure until 1946 when Naval Air Squadron VP-5 again converted to Lockheed P-38Ls which eventually became part of Naval Aircraft Group 11 (NAG11) which was redesignated Fleet Marine Force Atlantic (FMFAtl) on February 15th 1951………. By 1958 there were over 350 active duty members assigned to sixteen stations across eight states along America’s east coast…. Helicopters continue play an important role today with twelve USCG choppers based at NAS Jacksonville flying search and rescue missions within Florida Keys; Puerto Rico; Virgin Islands; Bermuda; Canada; Iceland; Northern Ireland; Scotland etc….. Helicopter accidents are now very rare compared even just a few years ago However it is still always important for our members not only working day and night but also taking care while traveling through areas where they may not be expected such as talk about coastal communities around America’s coastline

Beech Grove is a small town in central Indiana, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute metropolitan area. The first settler in Beech Grove was John Beech who arrived in 1802. He built a cabin on the current site of Beech Grove High School. In 1810, Samuel Beech and his family settled near what is now Second Street and North Avenue in Beech Grove. They were followed by other settlers including Nicholas Ladd and his family who platted what is now First Street and Ohio Avenue in 1815. In 1822, Nathaniel Lyon moved to Beech Grove from Muncie, Indiana with his wife Sophia Illinois Lyon (1803-1886). They established a mercantile business at Second and Ohio Streets. Lyon served as justice of the peace from 1824 to 1830; he also owned land east of First Street which he developed into much of modern-day Beech Grove. Lyon's son Jacob became associated with the business during its early years and continued it after his father's death in 1830. In 1845, Nathan Lyon donated land east of First Street to create what would become Peoples Bank Park (). The bank opened its doors for business on July 15, 1865 (). After becoming merged into Chase National Banks in 1970 (), Peoples Bank Park served as an outdoor education center for students from nearby Central High School until 2006 when it closed due to budgetary cuts within Chase parent company UBS AG . Today, the parkland contains a collection of buildings used during Peoples Bank Park's brief history: a warehouse used as office space from 1865 to 1870; two storeys of weather-protected brick building completed in 1886; a two story wood frame building completed circa 1890 that housed the bank's soda fountain; an addition added to Peoples Bank Park between 1932 and 1936 that contained an observation deck overlooking Third Street (); and finally, an old four story redbrick building erected about 1912 that serves as the school annexe . A portion of first street opposite PeoplesBankParkwas renamed Tower Road following approval by then-mayor Joseph Ahern prior to its construction which doubled as city hall for Beech Grove until 1978 when it was replaced by present day Griggs Road after city annexation into Terre Haute Township
Beech Grove is a small town in Hancock County, Indiana, United States. The population was 514 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first post office in Beech Grove was established on November 8, 1872. The name of the town was chosen by vote of the citizens. The first settler in Beech Grove was George Hargrave. He and his family started a wheat farm near present-day Beech Grove on October 15, 1873. Hargrave served as justice of the peace for Beech Grove from 1875 to 1889. On December 12, 1880, John Fenton opened a gristmill south of town. By 1888, there were over 20 mills in Beech Grove with an average capacity of 25 bushels per day. A sawmill and other manufacturing businesses opened up during the late 1800s including a Typewriter factory (1898), Jiffy Lube (1901), Ford car dealership (1907), and two shoe stores (1910). In 1907 they also built a movie theater which still stands today - AMC Theatres - across from First Baptist Church in downtown Beech Grove! Although many manufacturing businesses closed down during World War II due to wartime production shortages, some such as Jiffy Lube continued until 1981 when they merged with Oldsmobile Motorsports Incorporated to form Chrysler Corporation's sportscar division Alfa Romeo USA LLC!
