His shop was located on Main Street and he sold his guns to farmers and ranchers throughout the area. It wasn’t until 1907 that a gunsmith named George L. Denny opened his own shop in Carmel and began manufacturing handguns. Denny became famous for creating innovative designs for handguns, many of which remain popular today. In 1924, the business moved to its current location at 219 S State Street and continued to produce pistols until 1989 when it closed its doors forever due to economic reasons. Carmel, Indiana is a small town located in the southern portion of the state of Indiana. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. Carmel is one of four towns in Howard County and is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The other three towns are Church Point, Noblesville, and Fishers. The first settlement in Carmel was on property that still stands today near what is now the high school. It was founded by John Jacob Astor and his wife Catherine who named it after their home province of Italy - Carmelo. In 1812, President James K. Polk awarded Anthony Wayne a land grant for creating what would become Carmel Township on November 3rd, 1812 which became our current location for Carmel Village/Carmel Township/Howard County as well as portions of Noblesville and Fishers Township also located within this boundaries but lying outside these limits when created until recently were all included within today's boundary lines set by court decisions or rulings rather than just administrative error on the part of our government officials! Interestingly enough while we have been living hereabouts since back then primarily through purchase or occupancy rather than actually being born here we have not really changed much since then - except maybe for some additions to our population over time like John Wayne himself who once moved into this area from nearby Roanoke (Virginia) during Prohibition! In 1814-15 two brothers, Abram & Isaac Morse established themselves in what would become known as village with Abram running a grocery store while Isaac ran a sawmill which produced lumber used to build postcards and other items sent from America to Europe during the 1800’s! This business model continued until about 1865 when both brothers passed away leaving their stores open only during special days such as Thanksgiving or Christmas etcetera! It should be noted that even though these businesses operated hand-in-hand until about 1865 there was no “Village” formed although many people lived and worked together closely associated with one another socially throughout most if not all of those years prior to that date! After Abram Morse died suddenly in 1865 his brotherIsaac took over his store but due to various financial problems soon closed it down again later that year too!! For several years following this closure there were sporadic attempts by various residents to reopen it but without success until finally in 1898 when local resident Hemanus Stickney purchased back old building and reopened it under new management becoming THE ONLY LOCAL BUSINESS IN THAT AREA LONG BEFORE THAT ANYONE EVEN THINKED ABOUT COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE!!! This continued operation until 2003 when Stickney sold everything he had including building to local developer Phil Montoya who plans on redeveloping it into an apartment complex however at least SOME OF THE ORIGINAL LANDING LOTS FOR THIS BUILDING ARE STILL THERE IN CASE YOU WERE INTERESTED IN VISITING THEM AND TAKING A LOOK AT ALL OF THE PREVIOUS STORIES ABOUT IT!!!!
