That year, entrepreneur Gertrude Smith opened her first cafe in the city. At that time, small batch coffee was still a new concept - even though it had been around for centuries elsewhere. Smith's Cafe was the first shop in town to sell pre-packaged espresso beans (ground up from various beans) upstream from where people bought milk and other groceries. Over time, other businesses followed suit - until there were several dozen smallbatch cafes operating throughout East Chicago by the end of World War II. This proliferation of small batch cafes helped fuel the growth of its current caffeine industry - as more and more people began enjoying breakfast or drinks before heading into work or school each day. While some old-school cafe owners may have continued serving large quantities of pre-packaged beans hand-to-hand until they sold out (or went out of business), most modern cafe operators prefer to make less than one thousand cups per day on average - which is about twice what Starbucks produces on an annual basis! That said, because few people are able to operate these businesses sustainably over extended periods of time (ten years or more!), some smaller batches do eventually go extinct... but that doesn't mean they're not worth commemorating!

East Chicago, Indiana is a small town in the US state of Indiana. The population was 9,736 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east bank of the River Ohio and bordered by LaPorte County to the north, Porter County to the east, Dearborn County to the south, and Wabash County to the west. The town was founded in 1847 as a post office called Clearfield. It became East Chicago in 1868 when it was adjacent to present-day South Side Village. In 1898, East Chicago amalgamated with other towns in Porter and LaPorte counties to form what is now known as "the City of East Chicago." In 1960, East Chicago merged with Wabash County and became one of its eight municipalities. The city gained full city status in 1990 after being passed through a process that began under then- Mayor Tom Barrett. The economy of EastChicago is based on manufacturing and agriculture; although heavy industry has since left for lack of space or cheaper alternatives outside of India and China. Some recent businesses that have opened up in EastChicago include: an Indian restaurant called Nepali Bazaar which opened up in 2006; an American Legion Post Office which reopened in 2009; an ice cream store called Dairy Queen which opened up in 2011; a tanning salon called KFC Beauty Parlor which opened up in 2013; and an ethanol refinery whichopened up in 2014. The city also has several parks including Harbor Park (named after Lake Michigan), Wellesley Park (named after former Mayor Tom Barrett's daughter), Euclid Park (named after founder Abraham Lincoln), Garfield Park (named after George Washington) and North Side Park ( named for African Americans who were descendants of slaves). There are also several libraries including Central Library & CommunityLibrary District Library whichopened up in 2007, Goodyear Memorial Library renovated from 1996-1998 & Western Illinois University's library renovation from 2002-2006 make this library one stop shop for research on many topics related to history & culture around Eastern Indiana
There is a long and varied coffee history. It starts with small batches of coffee beans, roasted in small studios or homes, brought to market by the coffee growers themselves. Brewers have experimented with different roastings and brewing methods over the years, resulting in a wide variety of coffees available today. Some of the earliest modern coffee companies were founded in the early 20th century by Danish entrepreneurs who recognized the potential for developing a new type of coffee – Brazilian Kupfer Coffee. The first commercially produced Brazilian Kupfer Coffee was sold in 1912. In 1928, Dutchman Willem de Wet began producing world-renowned Java Coffee in Rotterdam. These early pioneers were among the first to develop what would become known as stovetop espresso systems (STS), which allowed for greater flavor variability and individuality within each cup of coffee. By World War II, more than two dozen small brewers had developed STS systems used across Europe and North America. By 1949, this number had increased to more than 50 manufacturers worldwide; however, these pioneer days were soon behind them as technology advanced and less skilled brewers took advantage of new digital brewing technologies such as electric pumps and thermal infusion heating devices (TIRs). The introduction of automated drip machines led to a marked decline in house-roasted single origin beans from around 1970; however, there has been an increasing trend towards roasting whole bean coffees since then even at smaller studios/houses. Today many baristas enjoy enjoying freshly roasted whole bean coffees from their local studio or home roasters just like their grandfather did generations ago - it's an amazing way to experience great flavor and unique handmade artistry!
