Goshen is a small town in central Indiana. It was founded in 1814 by the Goshen party of settlers and is the oldest continuously inhabited community in the state. The population of Goshen was 9,711 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in Goshen was James Whitworth, who arrived in 1814. He built a cabin on what is now State Road 317. Whitworth's cabin served as the nucleus for what would become Goshen. By 1815, some farmers had arrived to help support Whitworth and his family, and they began to build homes around his cabin. In 1816, many of these early settlers met to form a village government under the leadership of John Witherspoon. This village became known as Goshen because it lay on land donated by William Ballard (the brother-in-law of James Whitworth). The first post office was established at Goshen in 1830. From this point forward, Goschen would be governed by a board of trustees appointed by the county seat at Vincennes. During its early years, Goshene had few amenities other than a store and an inn that could serve as makeshift meeting places for local residents and their kinfolk who came to trade goods or visit friends during seasonal fairs or festivals. But over time, people gradually grew more comfortable with their new surroundings and started building themselves modest houses – one such house still stands today on State Road 317 overlooking downtown: The Ewing House (named after two pioneer families who lived near it). By 1840, most of what is now downtown Goshene had been developed including parcels east of Main Street between First Avenue North and Second Avenue North; north side from Third Avenue South to Fourth Avenue South; west side from Fifth Avenue North to Sixth Avenue North; south side from Seventh Avenue South to Eighth Street South; and parts of northeast corner between Ninth Street West and Tenth Street West which were annexed by Indianapolis in 1898 In 1850 there were just 10 households living within walking distance of city limits while 2 miles outside city limits there were 235 dwellings housing 1,546 persons With industrial development beginning along main street near town center growth accelerated with additional mills being built thus making transportation available closer then ever before

Goshen, Indiana is a small town in the U.S. state of Indiana and is part of the Goshen Micropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 2,844 at the 2010 census. It is located in Howard County. Goshen was founded by John Hennessey in 1827 as a log cabin community on the banks of the White River. The first post office in Goshen was established in 1829 and until 1910 it functioned as a stagecoach stop on the Wabash Railroad between Fort Wayne and Terre Haute. The town began to prosper after being selected as one of four communities to be served by an electric light plant built by General Electric Company along with Decatur, Illinois; Lafayette, Indiana; Newtonia, Iowa; and Westville, Michigan. In 1907, construction began on what would become known as "the First Lady" structure that became home to Goshen's first grocery store and all other village functions for over fifty years until its demolition in 1978 when new Town Hall was completed. In 1954, Goshen received water from Lake Michigan through a canal project which created jobs within the local paper industry while also providing much-needed sanitation services for residents nearby Camp Randall Park located just east of town on Cedar Creek Wildlife Preserve In October 2006, it was announced that Goshen had been chosen as host city for hosting the 2007 USA Today High School Football Championship Game The game will be played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis
Goshen, Indiana was founded in 1824 by George Washington Goshen and his wife Lucy. The Goshen family came from a long line of farmers and landowning families in the area. George Washington Goshen had been born in 1792 in western Pennsylvania and emigrated to Indiana when he was just 17 years old. In 1804, he married Lucy (née Dearborn) and together they started a small farm near Goshen. Over the next few years, they added additional acres to their farm, until they were able to purchase over 1,000 acres of land around Goshen. By 1830, the Goshens had become one of the largest landowners in the area. The early settlers of Goshen were largely interested in farming and didn't have much else going for them besides their land holdings. However, with the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825, transportation became much more accessible and opportunities for businesses sprang up all along the canal route. This new economy stimulated growth on both sides of the canal - those who built businesses grew rich while those who didn't developed into successful agricultural communities. George Washington Goshen died in 1853 but his widow continued to live on her farm until her death in 1886. After her death, it passed through several families before it was purchased by industrialist J W Marriott Jr., who began developing it into a major tourist attraction known today as Avon Park*.
