Greencastle is a small city in the U.S. state of Indiana, about 15 miles (24 km) northeast of Indianapolis and the seat of Grant County. The population was 7,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indy–Elyria, OH-IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as Greencastle was first settled by families from Ohio in 1814 during the period when United States forces were fighting to open up Northwest Indiana to settlement. In 1821, General David Harney founded what became Grant County and named it for him – Harney County being one of three counties created in that year. The town site was chosen because it lay on the banks of a river that furnished water for many farms and villages in central Indiana. A post office called Greencastle was established in 1827, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1836, George Stephenson built his locomotive " Pennsylvania " here on what is now downtown Greencastle; she made her maiden voyage from London to Indianapolis on October 12th, 1837. The locomotive helped promote passenger travel through central Indiana and led to larger settlements along the route – such as Warsaw (now Elkhart), Clearwater (now Goshen), Anderson (now Terre Haute), and Logansport (later Plainfield). Indiana's first constitution was ratified here on November 3rd, 1791; printed copies are still kept at Brown University's Library Special Collections department. George Washington Carver attended high school here before going on to attend Purdue University where he developed a love for agriculture which would later lead him to become one of America's most successful farmers/food scientists

Its popularity in Europe began during the 18th century when they discovered it while exploring new lands. The first registered recipe for Arabica coffee was published by Angelo Giacomo Pecci in 1795. Robusta Coffee is another type of coffee that originated from Africa but unlike Arabica, Robusta can be brewed more harshly than other types of coffee due to its robustness which gives it a fuller flavor profile. It became popularized in Italy during the 1800s because it was easier and faster to cultivate than other beans and allowed for larger producing countries like Italy to become leading exporters of quality roasted beans. Today, Robusta Coffee is still widely consumed throughout most parts of the world including North America, South America, Asia Pacific, Europe and Australia.

Greencastle, Indiana is a city located in the U.S. state ofIndiana. The population was 493 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Grant County. The town was founded in 1814 by General David Wilkinson and named for Greencastle, Scotland, then part of Great Britain. In 1824, Wilkinson donated land to build a courthouse and jail; the first building opened in 1830. The city became a republic in 1828 after United States President James K. Polk signed an executive order creating it as an independent government beneath the jurisdiction of Congress. In 1836, Greencastle granted land to Alexander Hamilton and others to create Hamilton Township; it became part of Grant County on November 3, 1880. In 1907, Henry Ford came to Greencastle and established his Ford Motor Company there; it has since become one of America's largest automobile manufacturers and remains headquartered there today (the other major automotive manufacturer is Chrysler). In 1928, Greencastle voters approved City Club dues beginning $1 per month for all residents over 25 years old; this became effective January 1st, 1929 Greencastle was Patriotized in 2009 by Mayor Bob Buckhorn who said "Patriots help keep our democracy strong."

After learning about this new land from Native Americans, a group of Englishmen arrived in 1791 to purchase the land from the Shawnees. In 1824, General Andrew Green led an expedition against the Creek Nation and discovered what would later become Greencastle. The town began to grow rapidly after becoming a center for trade and industry. During its early years, Greencastle was known for its production of whiskey and other alcohols. However, due to Prohibition in America during the 1920s, these products became less popular and dormant until recent decades when they have started to reemerge as part of local food culture
